WON NEWSLETTER: November 29, 2021 Observer Newsletter: Survivor Series review, NJPW vs. NOAH show announced
In this week’s issue:
The new Omicron variant of COVID-19 that became a major news story this week led to Japan closing its borders.
The announcement was made that as of 11/30, travelers could not come to the country, but it is not what it sounds like.
This will have some effect on the pro wrestling business. Basically wrestlers who have already obtained working visas will be able to return, and it’s been confirmed that Will Ospreay would be working the Tokyo Dome in the main event on 1/5 against the winner of the Shingo Takagi vs. Kazuchika Okada IWGP title match the night before. There was a one day period where New Japan officials were trying to get clearance for this and there was no answer regarding those leaving the country or those not in the country.
Those who have been in Japan over the past year, people like Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa, Jeff Cobb, Aaron Henare, Bad Luck Fale, Chase Owens, KENTA and announcer Kevin Kelly (who will be staying in Japan from January through March and doing live English broadcasts of all the major shows until the end of the New Japan Cup) will all be allowed to come to Japan or in some cases stay in Japan.

TUESDAY NEWS UPDATE

WWE
- Matt Hardy addressed Jeff being sent home from the road during his Twitch stream on Monday, saying “I did speak to Jeff for a little bit today, and he’s okay, he’s good, and I think he’ll be fine, but once again this isn’t my business, and if he wants to go into it in more detail, then he’ll do it himself. But Jeff is okay, he is at home, and he’s okay.”
- WWE has canceled their SmackDown taping for December 31 at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. They will run a show at the venue on Friday, March 18 instead.
- Matches taped for WWE Main Event this week include Dana Brooke vs. Tamina for the 24/7 title and Apollo Crews and Commander Azeez vs. Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander.
- Bron Breakker spoke to Sports Illustrated on being a part of a WarGames match with Johnny Gargano. “To be in a WarGames with Johnny Gargano, that means the world to me,” he said. “Johnny is a fantastic performer, among the best in the world. He’s so great out there, as tough as nails. He’s gone out of his way to help and give me advice. He’s a fantastic human being and performer, and I can’t say enough good things about Johnny Gargano.”
- The piece also had comments from Cora Jade, who spoke about her winning the women’s WarGames match. “I started crying and it was such raw emotion,” said Jade regarding scoring the pinfall in the match. “I fell in love with this when I was eight. It’s what I’ve wanted and worked for over the past 12 years. To go into the back after the match, after a WarGames match, and have people like Shawn Michaels and Road Dogg shake my hand, it’s the craziest, most amazing thing.”
- Breakker also spoke with Times Now News about his goals in NXT and the WWE.
- WWE has partnered with White Castle and GrubHub for meals that can be ordered through the GrubHub delivery service. They include:
The Natalya meal: four impossible sliders, 3 piece cheese stick and a small Coke zero sugar for $8.36
The Dolph Zgigler meal: Four bacon cheese sliders, a 6 piece chicken ring, and medium Fanta Craver Party Punch.
There is also a WWE Crave Case featuring 10 original sliders, 10 American cheese sliders, and 10 jalapeno cheese sliders. - Cricket Wireless released a video featuring The IIconics that was taped prior to their release in July.
- WWE will have exclusive Bobby “The Brain” Heenan t-shirts at the Staples Center for SmackDown this Friday in Los Angeles.
- Free matches added to WWE’s YouTube channel okay include Roman Reigns vs. King Corbin from WWE TLC 2019, Bobby Lashley vs. Jeff Hardy from the December 7, 2020 edition of Raw, and Big E vs. Damien Sandow from WWE TLC 2013.
AEW
- This week’s Road to AEW Dynamite, which focuses on the aftermath of last week’s Atlanta Street Fight with Cody Rhodes, John Silver vs. Bryan Danielson, and Jamie Hayter vs. Riho.
- Sports Illustrated has an interview with MJF, talking about his feud with CM Punk. Regarding Edge’s comments on the promo on a recent episode of Raw: “They’re just trying to make their show the best they possibly can. I’m not mad, I completely understand it. And who knows, I might be working with those two guys in 2024. And that line by Punk about me being a ‘less famous Miz,’ that resonated because people used to actually think that. But I’m smart enough to know better. My match last month at Full Gear against Darby Allin proved otherwise. I am equally as outstanding in the ring as I am on the stick. That match with Darby proved I’m anything but one-dimensional.”
- On Twitter, Anthony Ogogo challenged Jake Paul to a match after Tommy Fury pulled out of the fight. “@jakepaul you s******,” Ogogo wrote. “I’ve seen one British tv star / sporting heartthrob has pulled out. This tv star / sporting heartthrob will happily take his place on 12 days notice. I haven’t had a pair of gloves on in 3 years but I’ll still spank you like the bitch you are. Fight me!“ It has since been announced that Tyron Woodley will fill in for Fury, setting up a rematch between him and Paul.
- This week’s Sammy Guevara vlog.
Other Wrestling

- Mercedes Martinez is the guest on this week’s Oral Sessions with Renee Paquette.
- The Inspiration talked to Sports Illustrated about their Impact debut and their release from WWE. “It was a very scary time when we were let go, especially since we were not U.S. citizens,” Cassie Lee said. “Every decision we made impacted our future, so that creates a very daunting time. WWE has an incredible platform and amazing brand, but our success is now in our hands. We’re building something bigger different, something that belongs to us.”
- Ready to Rumble, the 2000 film starring WCW stars such as Golderg and Diamond Dallas Page, is now free to watch on YouTube with ads.
