Monday Update

  • Bryan and I will be back tonight covering Raw as well as a lot of questions regarding things from the past few days with Wrestling Observer radio.
  • Added to Wednesday’s Dynamite show is Jon Moxley & Young Bucks vs. Swerve Strickland & Samoa Joe & Powerhouse Hobbs.  This would seem to indicate that all six of these men will be in the Anarchy in the Arena main event.  From the build on Wednesday, I got the impression the other two members would be Willow Nightingale & Kenny Omega on the Strickland side and Gabe Kidd & Marina Shafir on the Moxley side.  It’ll all be finalized on Wednesday’s show.
  • As of last word, Saturday’s Collision is on the TNT app but not on MAX yet.  AEW has not said anything new on this subject since late Saturday.  MAX stated it would hopefully be up today.  We haven’t gotten any word that’s the case.
  • We’ve been asked a lot of questions regarding Sunday’s AEW PPV show because Triller has not put up a way to buy the show.  Nobody has addressed this from AEW past Triller will carry the show in some international markets and eventually it will have the link to buy it up in those markets.  It doesn’t look  like it will be available through Triller in the U.S., and maybe not the U.K.  We were told that Prime Video, YouTube and PPV.com will carry it worldwide along with the regular cable and satellite distributors in the U.S. and Canada.  Triller had been the key international distributor for AEW PPV shows since 2019 but nothing has been said on why this has changed.  It will be available at most Dave & Buster’s in the U.S.  Why it appears to not be carried on Triller in markets it had been in the past is a question that hasn’t been answered.
  • Raw is tonight from Greenville, SC.  Kairi Sane will return on the show.  They’ve announced Logan Paul appearing as well as Jey Uso vs. Bron Breaker non-title, Sheamus vs. Grayson Waller, Penta & AJ Styles vs. Finn Balor & JD McDonagh, and Money in the Bank qualifiers with Sane vs. Zoey Stark vs. Rhea Ripley and Roxanne Perez vs. Natalya vs. Becky Lynch.  There were 8,400 tickets out as of this morning.  So while they will have a good crowd, it’s not going to be close to a legit sellout.
  • Smackdown on Friday night did 1.29 million viewrs and an 0.36 in 18-49, the lowest number so far this year.  The Knicks vs. Celtics game did 5.73 million and 1.63, and there were also Stanley Cup playoffs.  Smackdown beat the NHL.  If you think this number is a sign the boom is over, it’s not.  It’s just how it is every year as the playoffs get deeper.  It wasn’t a great show, but that’s a different issue.
  • Fuerza Guerrera held a press conference to announce  his retirement show on 9/28 at Arena Ciudad in Mexico City.  While Guerrera is a legend, he’s not the level of draw someone like  Santo is and Arena Ciudad is an expensive 20,000-seat venue.  It sounds overly ambitious to say the least.  They’ve announced a main event of Blue Demon Jr. & Tinieblas Jr. & ? vs. Guerrera & El HIjo del Solitario & DMT Azul.
  • Holly Holm announced on Ariel Helwani’s show that she’s signed a multi-fight deal with MVP Promotions,  which is the boxing promotion headed by Jake Paul.  She had already announced going back to boxing, where she is a Hall of Famer, after being a major MMA star in UFC.
  • WWE is advertising Rey Fenix, El Hijo del Vikingo, Psycho Clown and Pagano for the meet and greet in Los  Angeles on 6/7 for Worlds Collide.  That would indicate that most likely these wrestlers would be on the show that has an AAA vs NXT theme.
  • Kevin Lee has signed a multi-fight deal with the PFL according to MMA Fighting.
  • People have been raving about a super heated match from yesterday afternoon in Reynosa, Mexico, a sold out show which is somewhat of a rematch from El Homenaje a Dos Leyendas with Mistico & Mascara Dorada vs. Komander and local wrestler Astral:
  • The next season of LFG will debut on 6/22 on A&E.  It is being moved from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. as a start time.
  • Those at MLW have said that  there will be releases made over the next month.  They won’t be all at once.  The plan is to bring in more bigger names, likely WWE recent cuts, and those will take the place of some regulars who will be released.
  • Returning UFC fighter Kyoji Horiguchi, a major star in Japan who had been in UFC in the past, was removed from his 6/21 fight in Baku, Azerbaijan for undisclosed reasons.  Azat Maksum will replace Horiguchi against Tagir Ulanbekov according to MMA Fighting.
  • Wrestling Revolver on 8/9 in Dayton has announced a Jerry Lynn Invitational.
  • The trailer was just released for the short movie “Money Talks” where Hook has a role.
  • There will be a Wrestlecon at the Newark, NJ Airport Marriott on 8/1 and 8/2 over SummerSlam weekend.  Announced as appearing are Will Ospreay, Sting, Matt Cardona, Kazuchika Okada, Godfather, The Hardys, Abdullah the Butcher and Rikishi along with WWEID wrestlers Brad Baylor, Ricky Smokes, Jackson Drake and Sean Legacy.
