Vanessa Borne makes AEW debut at Dark taping

Danielle Kamela, formerly known as Vanessa Borne in WWE NXT, made her AEW debut today.

Wrestling under her real name, Kamela lost to Marina Shafir in her debut match at today’s Dark taping at Orlando, Florida’s Universal Studios.

Kamela was under contract with WWE from 2016 to 2021, though her last in-ring appearance for the company came in January 2020 at an NXT house show in Florida.

Signed in 2016, Kamela made her NXT TV debut on an October 2016 episode, losing to Peyton Royce. Her career would continue primarily on NXT’s house show circuit for the next several months.

Kamela took part in the 2017 Mae Young Classic, losing to Serena Deeb in the first round. She would again primarliy work NXT live events for the rest of 2017 and 2018, with occasional appearances on NXT TV in an enhancement talent role.

In 2019, Kamela worked a dark match at the Royal Rumble Axxess event, then appeared at the WWE Worlds Collide event held over WrestleMania 35 weekend. She participated in a battle royal that aired on WWE Network, and also worked dark matches on those shows.

Kamela reportedly re-signed with the company in January 2020, and reports at the time stated that she would be called up to WWE’s main roster. She was never used on the main roster, though, and was released from her WWE contract in May 2021.
