Tony Khan addresses Vince McMahon tweet, says it was a ‘factual statement’

Tony Khan commented on a recent tweet of his during Saturday night’s ROH Death Before Dishonor media scrum.

When asked about his tweet remarking about now becoming the longest-tenured CEO of a pro wrestling company in the wake of Vince McMahon’s retirement from WWE on Friday, he said he was only referring to AEW Rampage, which he plugged in the tweet.

“Well, I only kind of commented about AEW…I was referencing AEW Rampage is on,” he said. “Just a fact that the big major companies that I would consider ‘the big three’, now I am the longest tenured, of course [Takami] Ohbari, and there’s a new CEO [in WWE] also, so I think if you consider it pro wrestling I think it’s a fair statement. I just thought it was a factual statement on a note to promote Rampage but that’s all it was. I can’t say anything else about it.”

McMahon, 77, announced his retirement from WWE following hush money allegations, with some allegations involving sexual misconduct. Stephanie McMahon and Nick Khan have since been named co-CEOs of WWE.

Ohbari became CEO and President of New Japan Pro Wrestling on October 23, 2020, replacing former CEO Harold Meij.
