Tony Khan believes AEW has the best women’s wrestling in the world right now.

The AEW president appeared on WGN Radio recently and praised the work of Toni Storm, Mercedes Mone, and other wrestlers in his women’s division, saying this is the best it has ever been.

“I think right now across the board everyone thinks this is by far the best wrestling in the history of AEW in the women’s division and I think we have the best women’s wrestling in the world right now,” Khan said.

“There’s more competition and more talent in the AEW women’s division than there’s ever been, and more big matches. I think by far 2024 has been the best year of the AEW women’s division and I give so much of the credit to ‘Timeless’ Toni Storm the World Champion and Mercedes Mone the TBS Champion and a lot of other great wrestlers like Kris Statlander, Willow Nightingale.”

Two women’s title matches are scheduled for Forbidden Door. Storm will defend her title against Mina Shirakawa and Mone will wrestle NJPW Strong Women’s Champion Stephanie Vaquer in a title vs. title match.

“I think two of the greatest women’s championship matches ever on the same card,” Khan said of Forbidden Door. “To have the AEW Women’s World Champion, ‘Timeless’ Toni Storm, an icon of the cinema and pro wrestling ring taking on Mina Shirakawa in a match that the fans absolutely want to see and a great story that’s been developing between Toni, Mina, and their shared love for Mariah May.”

“And to have the TBS Champion, the face of the channel, Mercedes Mone, the biggest free agent signing in the history of women’s pro wrestling and one of the biggest free agent signings ever in wrestling, came to AEW, has won the TBS Championship, is the face of our channel, and now she’s going to take on one of the top international wrestlers, Stephanie Vaquer.”

On tonight’s episode of Dynamite, Storm, Shirakawa and May will wrestle Saraya, Harley Cameron & Anna Jay in a six-person tag. Vaquer is scheduled to wrestle Lady Frost on this week’s episode of Collision.
