Tony Khan teasing surprises for both AEW Grand Slam Dynamite & Rampage

During his media rounds, AEW head Tony Khan continued to hammer home that tonight’s four hours of AEW Grand Slam Dynamite and Rampage action will be a major event — one that includes surprises.

On an appearance with Busted Open Radio Wednesday, Khan again used the phrase that he might “have a trick up his sleeve” for tonight’s show and that surprises might be in store for both Dynamite and Rampage, the latter of which is being taped for Friday.

He said tonight’s four hours is “the closest thing to a PPV on TV we’re going to get,” reiterating a point he made on a Tuesday podcast when he said it will be “the most stacked four hours we are ever going to present over two hours of Dynamite and two hours of Rampage.”

During the Busted Open Appearance, Khan hammered home that tonight’s show will be a big value for wrestling fans in the area buying tickets and urged them to come to the show if they are in the arena. Unlike last year, the event is not sold out.

On the aforementioned Tuesday podcast appearance, he said Wednesday’s show will be “the single best live wrestling event in New York all year for live fans.”

Here’s a few other notes from that appearance on In The Kliq:

  • He couldn’t comment on MJF’s contractual status following his appearance talking about it on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Hour. Khan said MJF being back is great for wrestling fans and has brought “a lot of ratings momentum.”
  • He confirmed that AEW would make this Northern California/Bay Area debut, but couldn’t confirm whether it would be for next March’s Revolution.
  • Asked about what could have been, he couldn’t rule out the possibility of The Elite vs. The Undisputed Elite in the future.
  • He couldn’t discuss any industry speculation/rumor about a future WBD/NBCUniversal merger.
  • He reiterated that he would love to bring Ring of Honor back as a weekly TV show and that he is continuing to talk to WBD “pretty frequently” about it. The fact this year’s two pay-per-views have been among the top three or four most successful for the company has helped those conversations.
