Tony Khan ‘has been wanting’ Danielson vs. Ospreay AEW dream match

A Bryan Danielson vs. Will Ospreay dream match is something that Tony Khan has been wanting to put together in AEW.

The build to the match began with a confrontation at the end of Wednesday night’s episode of Dynamite. After Ospreay defeated Kyle Fletcher in the main event, Danielson made his way out to confront Ospreay.

It looks like Danielson vs. Ospreay will be happening at AEW’s Dynasty pay-per-view in St. Louis on Sunday, April 21. On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer stated that the match is something Tony Khan “has been wanting.” Meltzer speculated that Danielson vs. Ospreay, Kazuchika Okada vs. Eddie Kingston, and Samoa Joe vs. Swerve Strickland will happen at the Dynasty PPV.

Meltzer said:

Bryan Danielson against Will Ospreay, which is, I don’t know [if it’s] 100 percent on the pay-per-view, but it’s like 95 percent. Ok, what I know for sure, 100 percent for sure, that match is happening relatively soon. I have been told that it’s something that Tony Khan has been wanting, you know, that’s like the dream match of all dream matches probably for him.

But this match is happening. I presume it’s going to be on the St. Louis pay-per-view on April 21. Eddie Kingston [vs.] Kazuchika Okada, Swerve [vs.] Joe, and probably the finals of the Tag Team title tournament too. So, yeah, looking like a hell of a pay-per-view.

After wrapping up his NJPW commitments, Ospreay officially started full-time with AEW last week. He defeated Konosuke Takeshita at Revolution over the weekend.

Danielson is currently in the midst of his final year as a full-time wrestler. He lost to Eddie Kingston in a Continental Crown Championship match at Revolution.

Danielson and Ospreay have never faced each other before.
