Tony Khan: AEW to make more big signings in the short-term future

AEW president and CEO Tony Khan is hyping that there will be more additions to the company’s roster in the near future.

During his appearance on Busted Open Radio today, Khan discussed Mercedes Martinez’s recent arrival in AEW and her match against Thunder Rosa on tonight’s Rampage. Khan stated that AEW will be making more big signings in the short-term future. Khan also said that the “forbidden door” will be opening again very soon.

Just in the last several weeks we’ve made some big ones [signings], and I plan to make some more big signings. And not in the long-term future, I mean in the short-term future. I’ll still be very active in the free agent market. And the ‘forbidden door’ shall be opening again very soon. So, I’m really looking forward to Rampage tonight. I guarantee you we’ll make some news coming out of this night’s show. And then we’ll have some big news next week too. It’s a really exciting time to be a pro wrestling fan, I think. Especially for the people who’ve been following AEW the last few years. I believe we’ve done some of the best pay-per-views, some of the best main events on TV. And now I think the roster just keeps getting better, and since we’ve added Rampage it’s more opportunities to feature more great wrestlers.

Khan said that whenever AEW can sign someone who makes the fans excited, can give the fans big matches, and can bring new fans to AEW, it’s a great opportunity for the company.

Khan also sent out a tweet today stating that he plans on dropping “some newsworthy info” on tonight’s Rampage.

Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Keith Lee, who officially became a free agent earlier this week, is someone who AEW has interest in.
