Tomohiro Ishii will be with AEW for rest of summer 2024

With him missing out on the NJPW G1 Climax this year, Tomohiro Ishii is set for an extended stay in AEW.

Ishii was in action on Wednesday night’s Dynamite, taking part in an International title number one contender’s fatal four-way match. PAC won the match and will challenge either Will Ospreay or MJF for the AEW International Championship.

Tony Khan sent out a tweet after Dynamite praising Ishii and announcing that he will be with AEW for the rest of the summer.

“It’s so great having @njpwglobal all-time legend Tomohiro Ishii here in AEW on Wednesday Night #AEWDynamite TONIGHT! We love having Ishii here,” Khan wrote. “[And] now he’s going to stay here in @AEW with us for the rest of summer 2024!”

This marks the first time that Ishii hasn’t competed in the G1 since 2012. He was involved in a qualifier tournament to decide the final two participants for this year’s G1 but lost in the semifinals.

The G1 begins on July 20 and runs through August 18.

Among the best in-ring wrestlers of his era, Ishii was inducted into the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame in 2023. He has made sporadic appearances for AEW since the promotion started its working relationship with NJPW.
