TJPW’s Miyu Yamashita earns future AEW Women’s World title shot

Tokyo Joshi Pro-Wrestling’s Miyu Yamashita has earned a future shot at the AEW Women’s World Championship.

Yamashita put herself in line for a shot at the championship by defeating Thunder Rosa in a non-title match at TJPW’s Summer Sun Princess 2022 event on Saturday. Rosa said during the lead-up to the match that she would give Yamashita a title shot if Yamashita won.

A date for the title match hasn’t been set. During a post-match press conference, Rosa said Yamashita knows her schedule and knows where AEW goes. Rosa said Yamashita is more than welcome to come to her house whenever she’s in the United States:

Yamashita made her AEW debut on an episode of Dark: Elevation last month, teaming with Skye Blue in a loss to Nyla Rose & Serena Deeb.

Dave Meltzer reported two weeks ago that AEW was interested in doing a Rosa vs. Yamashita match on AEW television:

It is not a lock or anything, but there was definitely talk of Rosa vs. Yamashita on AEW television as well as in Japan. The key people [in AEW] were very impressed with Yamashita on the streaming shows. It is hard to explain why Yamashita with only a couple of matches and never having been on television would be getting a title shot logically, and it’s never a lock here until it’s announced.
