Sammy Guevara wants to be ‘the best version’ of himself in AEW return

Sammy Guevara says he’s going to stop getting in his own way.

The 31-year-old returned to AEW/ROH in late July after having missed the previous five months due to suspension. He was suspended in February for not following concussion protocol in a no-disqualification match against Jeff Hardy on Rampage.

In the latest edition of his vlog, Guevara says that since he’s been back, he just wants to be the best version of himself.

“I’ve had so much time off to really just think to myself, what does Sammy Guevara want out of wrestling? And truthfully, I just want to be the best version of myself. That might sound corny or generic but I’m just tired of standing in my own way.”

Guevara was also suspended from AEW in 2020 after comments he made about Mercedes Mone on a podcast from 2016 resurfaced.

“I just want this to be the best version of Sammy Guevara and I don’t want to stand in my own way and I want to just keep giving my best whatever comes my way whether it’s Ring of Honor or it’s Collision, Dynamite whatever it is. You put me in that wrestling ring and I’m just going to give it my all.”

Guevara won the ROH World Tag Team titles with Dustin Rhodes just a few weeks after returning. They defended them most recently in a Bunkhouse Brawl against the Undisputed Kingdom on Saturday’s episode of Collision.

Guevara also teamed with Hologram in a win over The Beast Mortos and Matt Taven in a match held at the Jacksonville Jaguars practice field before the team’s home opener.
