Report: CM Punk does not plan to sue AEW’s Tony Khan

According to a new report, CM Punk has no plans to sue Tony Khan following his termination from AEW.

Haus of Wrestling is reporting that Punk does not currently have litigation pending against the AEW president and is not considering doing so in the future.

Nick Hausman wrote:

From what I gather, Punk is looking to avoid any further litigation and move on with his life. He was described to me as someone breathing a (sigh) of relief now that he is away from the day-to-day drama that seemed to follow him at AEW.

It is not clear if Khan or AEW are planning legal action against Punk but the situation is said to be quiet on both sides.

Regarding the potential of Punk returning to WWE, Hausman is reporting that multiple WWE sources view the two sides working together again as a possibility. However, with WWE hot right now the company is not in need of a big-name signing.

Our own Dave Meltzer addressed the possibility of Punk signing with WWE or another promotion in the September 11 edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter

Meltzer wrote:

For those who believe Punk’s career is over, the only way that would be the case is if he decides it himself. While the money may not be as good, he could walk into Impact with open arms tomorrow, or New Japan Pro Wrestling soon enough if he would choose to.

WWE doesn’t need him, and there would be people arguing in both directions on him, but he would increase ratings, merchandise sales and overall business. If he doesn’t sign with WWE, it wouldn’t shock me if he even returns to AEW at some point, but admittedly there would be a ton of resistance to that.

WWE’s Nick Khan was asked about Punk by ESPN’s Marc Raimondi recently and responded:

Listen, we only have respect for Phil. We appreciate his run here. We appreciate what he did and tried to do with the UFC. Not many people can actually get in there and do what he did. So, when we have respect for Phil, we wish him nothing but the best.
