MJF on AEW Full Gear injury: ‘Hands down, the most pain I’ve ever been in’

  • Ian Carey

MJF discussed the injury he suffered at AEW Full Gear 2023 during a recent interview.

He tore his labrum and popped his hip out of its socket during his match against Jay White on the pay-per-view. Despite his injuries, MJF wrestled a month later at Worlds End when he dropped the AEW World title to Samoa Joe.

He discussed the injuries during a recent appearance on The Wrestling Classic.

“In the Jay White match – I beat him on one leg by the way no big deal – I hit an elbow drop from the top rope to the floor because I was trying to impress people that I thought cared about me, later on I found out they didn’t. My hip popped out of socket and because I thought those people cared about me I fought through it for, I think, another 20 minutes.”

“(White) hit me with a uranage off the top rope and I landed directly on my left shoulder and my labrum just snapped entirely in half.”

“It was the most pain I’ve ever been in my entire life and then somebody tells me you need to do a press conference and I go ‘Oh, I love the wrestling fans, I’ll do a press conference and I’ll fight through these tears. And once again wrestling fans showed me they don’t care about me, they made memes about it, they thought it was funny. Hands down the most pain I’ve ever been in and nobody cared.”

MJF is set to defend the AEW International Championship in Arena Mexico on Friday, August 2 against Templario, who won a tournament at CMLL’s show on Tuesday. He also discussed the upcoming show in his interview with the Wrestling Classic.

“I love lucha libre,” he said, noting he’s performed in Mexico for MLW, AAA and The Crash. “I remember not too long ago I discussed that I would love for AEW to have a show in Aztec Stadium. But the reason I want to go there and the reason I love going there is because the competitors there are so weak. It’s a very easy payday and the food’s delicious.”

Before he heads to Mexico City on Friday, MJF will be in Nashville tonight for AEW Dynamite: Blood & Guts. AEW is advertising that fans will hear from him on the show.
