Mercedes Mone ready to show she’s the ‘greatest women’s wrestler of all time’

Mercedes Mone is both excited and nervous for her AEW in-ring debut.

At Double or Nothing this Sunday, Mone will compete in an AEW ring for the first time ever. It’s also the first time Mone has wrestled in more than a year. She’s been out of action since suffering an ankle injury while facing Willow Nightingale at a show for NJPW in May 2023.

Nightingale will also be Mone’s opponent at Double or Nothing. The TBS Championship is on the line in the match.

In an interview with The Ringer, Mone said she feels more excitement than pressure going into Double or Nothing. After such a long time out of action, there are some nerves involved, but Mone is confident that she and Nightingale are going to steal the show.

“I don’t want to put pressure on myself because I’ve been doing this for 14 years,” Mone said. “I have more excitement than pressure, but I am really nervous as well, just because it’s been a year since I performed, but being in the ring with someone like Willow Nightingale, I know it’s going to be absolutely everything I’ve ever dreamed of. We’re going to go out there and steal the show.”

Since walking out of WWE in 2022, Mone has only had five matches, all for either NJPW or Stardom. Mone told The Ringer that people know who Sasha Banks is, but she’s ready to show them who Mercedes Mone is. Mone believes she’s the greatest women’s wrestler of all time.

“They haven’t really got to see the CEO,” Mone said. “They know who Sasha Banks is, but the CEO, Mercedes Mone, [is] something they’ve never seen before, and I’m ready to show them. I’m the greatest women’s wrestler of all time, 100 percent.”

Mone signed with AEW earlier this year and made her first appearance as a member of the AEW roster this March.

Double or Nothing is taking place from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday. The main card has a start time of 8 p.m. Eastern.
