Mercedes Mone: AEW is ‘the best I’ve ever felt in my career’

At this point in her career, Mercedes Mone feels better than she’s ever felt before.

Mone spoke with the Battleground Podcast recently for an interview that was published on Monday. During their conversation, Mone was asked to sum up how her time in AEW has gone so far.

“My first, what, seven months — it’s been amazing,” she responded. “It’s been the best — so far the best I’ve ever felt in my career. Having these matches and opportunity, and just the chance to keep on growing and going. And having these new dreams and living old dreams. My biggest dream was to be in Japan, and now I am a New Japan Strong Women’s Champion. It’s been the best so far in AEW because this is where the best wrestle. And AEW makes sure that I still have this really competitive fire in me and, like, I still want to be the absolute best. And I feel like I’m just getting started, really.”

Formerly known as Sasha Banks in WWE, Mone made her AEW debut this March. She currently holds the promotion’s TBS Championship and is also the Strong Women’s Champion for NJPW.

Mone told the Battleground Podcast that, compared to the creative process that existed in WWE when she was there, she has had an “awesome” experience in AEW. There are still times where she doesn’t know what she’ll be doing week-to-week, but Tony Khan is approachable and easy to talk to.

“It’s been awesome. It’s been so awesome,” she said. “There’s still some times I sometimes still don’t know what I’m doing week-to-week because Tony’s so busy. But once I get here, he’s so easy to talk to. And if I don’t like a certain thing, we can make something work. And he’s just very open to creating, and he loves creating for AEW. It’s been amazing so far.”

A TBS Championship match with Mone defending against Kris Statlander has been set up for AEW Full Gear, which is taking place on Saturday, November 23. The Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey is hosting the pay-per-view.
