Matt Hardy thinks Jeff Hardy’s AEW contract expires ‘mid-June or so’

Jeff Hardy’s AEW contract could be expiring soon.

During the new episode of his Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, Matt Hardy gave an update on his brother’s AEW status. Matt said he believes Jeff’s contract with AEW is scheduled to expire in “mid-June or so.” The 46-year-old Jeff hasn’t wrestled since February but is cleared to return and just waiting for the call to come back.

“I mean, he’s been cleared. He’s just sitting at home waiting on the call,” Matt said. “Unlike me, he’s not someone who really gets out and makes things happen — he just kind of waits on someone to call him. He’s sitting at home just waiting on that phone call, jumping on the trampoline up and down with the dumbbells. But, yeah, he’s got until like mid-June or so, I think. And then his deal’s up. So I guess we’ll see if he ends up re-signing or not re-signing. Who knows?”

Jeff has been out of action since suffering a broken nose while facing Sammy Guevara on the February 16 episode of AEW Rampage. Jeff underwent sinus surgery after that injury.

Matt said that, while Jeff is an easy-going guy and happy to spend time at home with his family, he knows it’s also important for Jeff to end his career on a high note.

“He’s very happy to be home,” Matt said. “But I do know it’s important to him too, to finish up his career, and our run, on a high note. I know that is something that he wants to do. So it’s going to be interesting to see what happens.”

This April, Matt became a free agent following the expiration of his AEW contract. He noted that he was still speaking with both WWE and AEW after entering free agency.

Matt returned to TNA Wrestling last month but has not signed a contract with the promotion. In TNA, Matt has gone back to his “Broken” persona. He’ll challenge Moose for the TNA World Championship at Against All Odds on June 14.

The last 11 months he was in AEW, Matt wasn’t happy with how he was being used. Matt said on his podcast that he wanted to be in a solid storyline where he could contribute every week. He has been very happy with this TNA run and is motivated to prove himself in the match against Moose.
