Matt Hardy ‘still in the midst of negotiation’ on new AEW contract

The news regarding Matt Hardy returning to AEW on a new contract is that there’s no news.

On his Extreme Life with Matt Hardy podcast this week, Hardy was asked about whether there has been any developments on a new deal given that his existing contract expires this month (March).

Hardy said there’s “nothing really new” to report and that he is “just still conversing, still in the midst of negotiation, figuring out what’s going on.”

Earlier this month, Hardy said he had enjoyed working with AEW and Tony Khan and hopes to return, but that he is fine with the situation if he doesn’t. The 49-year-old has no plans to retire.

Hardy signed with AEW in March 2020 with his “Broken” character, debuting at Daily’s Place in Jacksonville and becoming part of the first-ever Stadium Stampede at that year’s Double or Nothing.

Hardy hasn’t wrestled for either AEW or Ring of Honor since the January 3rd AEW Rampage and has wrestled just twice since December — the same month when he aired some frustrations about how he and Jeff had been used in recent months.
