Mark Briscoe to make AEW Dynamite debut in Jay Briscoe tribute match

A week after his brother unexpectedly passed away in a car accident, Mark Briscoe will make his AEW debut on Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite in Lexington, Kentucky.

Briscoe will take on old Ring of Honor rival Jay Lethal as they honor the late Jay Briscoe on what would have been his 39th birthday. The two are still recognized as ROH Tag Team Champions.

According to Dave Meltzer, Mark is now allowed on AEW TV going forward and that AEW has also been cleared to honor Jay on the show as well.

Both Briscoes had been banned from AEW TV due to past homophobic tweets by Jay that he later apologized for. The two are under Ring of Honor contracts and in hyping up ROH pay-per-views, they appeared in graphic form only.

On Monday’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that Mark was still not allowed on AEW TV. On Tuesday, Meltzer reported that AEW confirmed that WBD “changed its policy on Briscoe and he’s allowed to appear going forward.”

Meltzer said the tweets by Jay years ago were the main reason, but “there was another reason which was cleared up.”

Jay was killed in a head-on car accident last Tuesday in Laurel, Delaware, that also took the life of the other driver. Jay’s two daughters were in the car and seriously injured, but both are on the mend toward recovery.
