Konosuke Takeshita not interested in WWE, hoping to return to AEW soon

Though he’s bid farewell to the United States following a four-month excursion, Konosuke Takeshita is hoping to make his return soon.

While speaking with Cultaholic after competing for PROGRESS Wrestling in the United Kingdom over the weekend, Takeshita said he’s hoping to be back in the United States this October. Takeshita also said that he isn’t interested in WWE, and his goal is to have more matches for AEW.

“To be honest, now I’m not interested in WWE. My next goal is more fights in AEW I hope,” Takeshita said. “So I have to go to back to Japan in August and September. Maybe, not decided yet, I hope I go back to America in October. Then if I stay in the US I can come to the UK more times. From Japan to the UK is so far but US to UK is maybe seven hours. It’s possible.”

Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio earlier this month that WWE was currently looking for a “big Japanese guy” and that Takeshita could fit that profile if he wasn’t signed full-time anywhere.

Takeshita revealed in July that he would be heading back to Japan for DDT’s Wrestle Peter Pan event, which is taking place on August 20. Takeshita tweeted last Friday: “Today I am leaving America. I have so many great memories of the last 4 months. Thank you all for being so nice to me. @AEW”

Takeshita’s time in AEW was highlighted by matches against Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, Eddie Kingston, and Hangman Page. He wrestled indie matches during his four-month stay in the United States as well.

Takeshita also briefly appeared for AEW in 2021.

Takeshita will be in action on the episode of Dark: Elevation that airs on YouTube tonight.
