Former Ring of Honor TV Champion Komander was pulled from a high profile trios match on Wednesday’s AEW Summer Blockbuster due to a legitimate injury.
Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp first reported the news Wednesday night on X after AEW aired a backstage segment from earlier in the day where The Hurt Syndicate took out Komander and also took his mask. Komander was holding his knee and it was said he wasn’t medically cleared.
On the post-AEW Wrestling Observer Radio, our Dave Meltzer said Komander was wrestling on Sunday in Oaxaca, Mexico, and slipped on the ropes while doing his rope walk/Fosbury Flop spot. Meltzer said “essentially Ultimo Guerrero saved his life” after the slip, but that Komander was still injured.
Meltzer was unsure what the severity was or the exact injury, but said that the last he heard, Komander is not expected to be available for next Friday’s Fantasticamania event at Arena Mexico.
CMLL’s Mascara Dorada took Komander’s place Wednesday, joining “Speedball” Mike Bailey and Kevin Knight against MJF, Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin. The Hurt Syndicate picked up the win with MJF unmasking Dorada afterward as part of the build to his match with Mistico at next Wednesday’s AEW Grand Slam Mexico.
