Kenny Omega to face El Hijo del Vikingo in AEW Dynamite dream match

El Hijo del Vikingo is set to make his AEW debut in a first-time ever dream match.
Tony Khan has announced that Kenny Omega vs. Vikingo will take place on Dynamite next Wednesday (March 22). Omega and Vikingo were supposed to face off in a match for Lucha Libre AAA in 2021, but the match didn’t happen due to Omega being injured at the time.
Khan noted that AEW will be hyping up Omega vs. Vikingo with a profile piece that will air on tonight’s Rampage.
Vikingo is the current AAA Mega Champion. He won Mexico MVP, Best Flying Wrestler, and Non-Heavyweight MVP in the 2022 Wrestling Observer Newsletter Awards. Vikingo also finished just outside of the top 10 for Most Outstanding Wrestler.
AEW wanted Vikingo to appear in the Face of the Revolution ladder match earlier this month, but that couldn’t happen due to Vikingo being unavailable. Komander ended being used for the match instead.
In the main event of Dynamite this past Wednesday, House of Black retained their AEW Trios titles against The Elite and The Jericho Appreciation Society. The show ended with a tease of Hangman Page reuniting with Omega and The Young Bucks.
Cable Dahmer Arena in Independence, Missouri is hosting next Wednesday’s Dynamite. Here’s the updated lineup:
- Kenny Omega vs. El Hijo del Vikingo
- No DQ match: Hook vs. Stokely Hathaway
