Kenny Omega health update, situation ‘could have been horrendous’

Dave Meltzer gave a health update on Kenny Omega during today’s episode of Wrestling Observer Radio.
Omega released a statement on Friday that he will be out of action indefinitely and it was later reported that he is dealing with a case of diverticulitis.
Meltzer noted on today’s show that Omega was in a lot of pain before being rushed to the hospital on Friday. Before being diagnosed with diverticulitis, Omega believed the pain was being caused by a hernia similar to what he dealt with in 2022.
Meltzer said:
I did not hear if he had surgery yet on it but he was rushed to the hospital Friday.
He had been in a lot of pain and he thought what happened was – you probably all remember, is that he had the hernia that was really, really bad which caused him that long, long period off.
He had been hurting really, really bad and he had presumed it was a hernia. He had bloating which he thought he may have messed up on his diet somehow and eaten something wrong. But he just kept training on it, working on it, did the match with Ethan Page.
He was hurting really bad on Wednesday when he did the promo with Jericho. By that point it was really bad so he went to the hospital and found out he had diverticulitis. It was a really bad situation in the sense of if he had not gone in another day or so, it could have been horrendous.
There is no timetable for Omega’s return.
Tony Khan addressed Omega’s status during the ROH Final Battle post-event media scrum. He said he would leave it to Omega to provide updates but also that there is reason to be optimistic.
Omega had been scheduled to team with Chris Jericho and challenge AEW World Tag Team Champions Ricky Starks & Big Bill at Worlds End on December 30.
