Jon Moxley: AEW is ‘wide open’ to mold into whatever we want

Jon Moxley believes AEW can be molded into whatever it wants to be.
Moxley, who has been with the company since its first event, Double or Nothing 2019, spoke to Youngstown Studios ahead of Wednesday’s show in Cleveland. During the interview, Moxley recalled a talk he had with Chris Jericho during the early days of AEW.
“I remember talking to Jericho at the very beginning and being like, ‘This is so much fun because it’s like Lewis and Clark going west — we have absolutely no idea what’s coming.’ It might be wild, might be great, might be terrible, might be something in between, probably a lot of both. We just have no idea.”
As the conversation continued, Moxley compared AEW to his three-year-old daughter, stating that much like his daughter, AEW has a whole person to grow into.
“It’s still a super young company. In wrestling, five years can seem like a really, really long time, but as far as an organization or a successful company or any type of organization, it’s extremely young. It’s still a baby. My daughter’s three years old, like, three years can seem like a long time if you look at it through one lens, but if you look at it through a different lens, it’s like she’s a three-year-old. She’s barely existed yet. You know what I mean? AEW is still basically a toddler. It’s wide open to mold it into whatever we want. There are no rules. Much like my three-year-old daughter, it’s got a whole person to grow into. AEW is wide open. It’s still a piece of clay.”
“I’m not really concerned about what (AEW) is right now; I’m concerned about what it could be five years from now or 10 years from now, or 20 years from now. That is the exciting thing to me. But the journey of a thousand miles, a million miles, begins with a single step and steps like Wednesday night.”
While Moxley is not currently advertised for Dynamite this week, the storyline of him, Marina Shafir, PAC, Claudio Castagnoli, and Wheeler Yuta “going to war” with the AEW locker room has been a featured part of the program recently. Orange Cassidy is advertised for Wednesday, one week after Moxley’s crew wrapped his friend Chuck Taylor’s head in a chair and stomped on it. Earlier in the show, Taylor had told Cassidy that he needed to step up and be a leader, noting that he has what it takes to beat Moxley. Cassidy and Moxley have had two singles matches in AEW previously, with Moxley defeating Cassidy at All Out 2023, but Cassidy then avenged that loss almost one year ago at Full Gear 2023.
