Hikaru Shida’s magical 2020 continued Saturday at AEW Double or Nothing with a victory over Women’s Champion Nyla Rose to take the title in a no DQ, no countout match.

In a physical match, Shida hit Rose with a kendo stick shot to the head and followed that up with a running knee strike to pin Rose and become the third women’s champion in company history (Riho, Rose). The end was fitting as Rose assaulted Shida with a kendo stick in recent weeks.

With the win, Shida runs her record to 10-1 in the calendar year with her only loss coming in a four-way on the January 1st Dynamite. She made her AEW debut at the company’s first Double or Nothing show last May.

The 37-year-old Rose had held the title since February when she defeated Riho on the February 12th Dynamite to win the belt. Since then, she only officially defended the title once against Kris Statlander at the February Revolution pay-per-view.
