Darby Allin reaches Mount Everest summit

Darby Allin has successfully reached the summit of Mount Everest.

Allin completed the climb at approximately 8:50 a.m. local time on Sunday, May 18, according to tracking data posted by Everest Chronicles, a platform that logs the movements of climbers in the Himalayas.

A dispatch on the site published Sunday morning titled “Top of the World” reads:

“8:50am local time Summit! Good weather was in our favor, but many teams took advantage of the short window as well, which slowed our progress more than expected.

  • Darby Allin, USA
  • Ang Dorjee Sherpa, Nepal/USA 24th summit
  • Pasang Bhote, Nepal 14th summit
  • Tashi Thundu Sherpa, Nepal 12th summit
  • Pemba Sherpa, Nepal 2nd summit

The team will savor their moment on top and then start the return back to Camp 4.”

An update posted four hours later noted that Darby will speak about his climb tomorrow when he reaches base camp.

“After summitting, the team had a much faster descent. Arriving back into to camp 4 they will spend the afternoon refueling and sleeping after a mammoth night on the mountain. Tomorrow a descent to Camp 2 and then into Base Camp, and you’ll get to hear the story from Darby himself.

Congratulations again to Darby, Ang Dorjee, Pasang Bhote, Tashi Thundu and Pemba. Thank you to Pemba Tharke for being our South Col cook and having water ready for everyone’s return.”

Allin is making the ascent with Adventure Consultants, a New Zealand-based expedition company. The company was co-founded by Rob Hall, who was among eight climbers killed during the 1996 Everest disaster, an event detailed in the book Into Thin Air.

On May 5, Darby posted a video of him doing a kick flip on his skateboard at 20,958 feet, which is believed to be a world record.

Allin hasn’t wrestled since the Continental Classic last December. His last match was a time limit draw against Ricochet on the December 22 edition of AEW Dynamite.
