A few days after word broke that Daniel Garcia had yet to re-sign a new contract with AEW, Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez gave an update on the situation on Wednesday’s Wrestling Observer Radio.
During their recap of Dynamite, Alvarez said that while nothing is official, people in AEW believe he will “most likely” re-sign. Meltzer agreed, said he had been hearing something similar while giving pause that it’s also not a done deal.
The exact date of the 25-year-old Garcia’s current contract expiration hasn’t been made public yet.
Earlier this week, Ibou of Wrestlepurists broke the news that the July 3rd injury angle on Dynamite with Garcia and MJF was done to protect AEW in case he did leave or set up a big storyline for his return if he does re-sign. He added that he had interest from other companies and that AEW was confident he would stay.
He has yet to post on social media since that angle.
After debuting in September 2020, Garcia’s signing to a full-time AEW contract was initially announced in October 2021 but the start date was never revealed.
He has never held AEW gold to this point, but did hold the Ring of Honor Pure Championship for just over three months.
