Cody Rhodes wins TNT Championship on AEW Rampage

Cody Rhodes has won an AEW title for the third time.

Rhodes defeated Sammy Guevara in the main event of tonight’s AEW Rampage to capture the TNT Championship for a third time. The show was taped Wednesday, December 22 in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Rhodes won the match after getting his knees up on a Guevara 630 splash attempt, hitting Cross Rhodes twice, then connecting with a Tiger Driver 98.

David Crockett was on hand to present Rhodes with the TNT title after his victory. Crockett was an announcer for NWA World Championship Wrestling in the 1980s, then an executive producer for WCW.

Rhodes was the first TNT Champion, defeating Lance Archer in a tournament final at the AEW Double or Nothing pay-per-view in May 2020. He dropped the title to the late Brodie Lee on an episode of Dynamite that aired on August 22, 2020, a show that was taped on August 13. He regained the title from Brodie in a dog collar match on the October 7, 2020 Dynamite, then lost the Championship to Darby Allin at the November 2020 Full Gear pay-per-view.

Guevara’s reign ends after nearly three months and four successful defenses.
