CM Punk says WWE culture ‘doesn’t change at all’ with Vince McMahon retirement

CM Punk does not believe that Vince McMahon’s retirement will lead to a culture change in WWE.

Speaking in an interview with the Absolute Geek podcast at Comic-Con, Punk gave his take on the recent shakeup atop the WWE, and how it will, or will not, impact the company.

“You think because [McMahon] tweeted that ‘I’m retired’ that he’s not going to be hands-on?” Punk asked in response to a question on his thoughts on McMahon retiring as WWE’s CEO.

“I don’t think the structure there… I don’t think the culture there changes at all,” Punk said. “I think it is what it is.”

Punk went on to draw parallels between his walking out of the company in 2014 and Sasha Banks and Naomi walking out before an episode of Raw in May, and noted that his and Banks and Naomi’s situations were treated much differently by the company than Brock Lesnar walking out before last week’s SmackDown.

“People are going to be real f—— mad about this, but f— it. Mercedes [Banks] and Trinity [Naomi] leave, and they announce on SmackDown that ‘Gosh darn, we’re so disappointed in them, they really let our fans down.’ Brock splits, comes back obviously, I think he worked the show [SmackDown], but where was Michael Cole saying ‘Man, Brock Lesnar really let these fans down.’

“I walked out, they went on TV and called me a quitter. What’s changed?” Punk asked. “What’s the difference?”

Punk went on to commend Banks and Naomi for handling their business the way that they did.

“You’re going to attack these two f—— poor women who just kinda had enough and they walked? They’ve [Banks and Naomi] got bigger balls than everybody there,” Punk said.

“So what’s changed? There’s nothing much that’s changed,” said Punk.

“People who lick the boots and have the audacity to go on live television and say that about those two women? They’re f—— cowards and bootlickers. That s—- ridiculous. Why didn’t they do it for Brock? They did it for me,” Punk said.

“I don’t know. It’s none of my business,” said Punk.
