AEW’s Rey Fenix not expected back for another month

Despite AAA advertising him for Saturday’s Rey de Reyes pay-per-view, Rey Fenix is still recovering from a dislocated arm and is not ready to return.
Fenix, now out of a sling, did appear at the beginning of the show as he and Penta El Zero Miedo introduced the returning Taya Valkyrie. He dislocated his arm in the Lucha Brothers’ AEW Tag Team title loss to Jurassic Express on January 5th.
On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said Fenix was hoping at the time of his injury that he would be ready for the show, but that he’s still a month away from returning. Meltzer took issue with AAA not being more up front that Fenix wouldn’t be competing given the anticipation for the match.
As of mid-January, the lucha star was hoping for a late-February return.
Instead of the advertised tag team match between the Lucha Brothers and Dragon Lee & Dralistico, it was a singles match between Penta and Dralistico instead. The two heels unmasked Penta in a post-match attack and taunted Fenix who was being held back due to his medical status. Lee said their match would still happen at some point.
