Former AEW World Champion Kenny Omega will be getting multiple surgeries and is out of his December 4th AAA Mega title defense against El Hijo del Vikingo at December 4th’s Triplemania Regia.

The news was first reported by Dave Meltzer in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

As of yesterday, the 38-year-old Omega was unsure of what the course of action would be to heal a variety of injuries he has been working through. Meltzer said Omega will be getting surgeries on his shoulder, knee and abdomen and is evaluating a septum surgery as well. Omega has been working with a torn labrum and an abdominal hernia for months.

Meltzer reported that none of the surgeries are considered major and that Omega is still hoping to return to AEW in or around late-February. Tony Khan has told him to take the time off he needs to get better.

“At times, he’s been in great pain and at other times, it’s been manageable pain. He’s done constant rehab and medical treatments weekly to stay in the game as champion. On the big stage, he had to be one of the best in the world, given much of the year he held the world titles of AEW, Impact and AAA, meaning he was called to headline both the major AEW and Impact shows at the same time. At times, he privately wondered if he’d done so much damage over the years that his time left in the sport was limited and publicly on one of our shows was more open and in depth about his in-ring future,” Meltzer wrote.

AAA was told of the news Wednesday and that they have an idea for a soon-to-be announced backup plan.

Omega lost the AEW title at last Saturday’s Full Gear and wrote himself off in storyline Wednesday, telling the Young Bucks and Adam Cole that he was taking some time off.
