AEW, Tony Khan file to compel arbitration in Ryan Nemeth lawsuit

AEW and Tony Khan have responded to Ryan Nemeth’s lawsuit against them with a legal filing of their own.

Post Wrestling reports that a petition was filed Friday on behalf of Khan and AEW in federal court in Florida to compel arbitration in Nemeth’s lawsuit.

The report states that the filing notes that there was an arbitration clause in each of the contracts Nemeth signed with AEW that stipulated that any disputes be resolved in Florida’s Duval County. Nemeth filed suit against AEW, Khan, CM Punk, and 20 potential John Does in California state court last month for assault, breach of contract, breach of implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing, and intentional interference with prospective advantageā€ stemming from an alleged backstage altercation between Nemeth and Punk at an AEW Collision taping in 2023.

Friday’s filing only pertains to Khan and AEW, not CM Punk, or any of the 20 potential John Does outlined as defendants in Nemeth’s lawsuit.

AEW and Khan are also asking that Nemeth be responsible for AEW’s attorney fees with regard to this matter, according to the Post Wrestling report.

The attorney arguing on Khan and AEW’s behalf also stated in Friday’s filing that the amount of money at issue in the lawsuit exceeds $75,000, therefore should be handled in federal court and not at the state level where Nemeth filed suit.
