AEW star Kenny Omega to undergo surgery ‘very, very, very soon’

As he works his way back from diverticulitis, AEW star Kenny Omega will be undergoing surgery “very, very, very soon.”
The bout with diverticulitis has prevented Omega from wrestling since December 2023. Despite being out of action, Omega was able to take part in an angle with The Elite on the May 1 episode of AEW Dynamite. Omega was stretchered out after being given an EVP trigger by The Young Bucks.
Omega announced during a Friday night Twitch stream that he’ll be having surgery done soon with a doctor who is at the top of his field.
“I have a wonderful doctor that I was able to find. And he is someone who is the top — the top of his field,” Omega said. “And he is very hard to get appointments with and he’s very hard to get surgeries with. However, he has done me a solid and I will actually be getting surgery very, very, very soon.”
Omega said the surgery is coming up in a couple of days. Though there are always nerves going into a major operation, Omega said this doctor is someone who he feels confident in.
“I’m feeling good about it,” Omega said. “And I’m optimistic.”
There was a point in his recovery from diverticulitis where Omega was heavily considering that he may not be able to wrestle again. With the way this doctor is doing the procedure, Omega is hopeful that, when he returns, he’ll be feeling better than he has in a long time. Omega said he believes his issues with diverticulitis started in the early days of AEW.
Omega appeared via video on Dynamite this Wednesday and announced that an Anarchy in the Arena match between The Elite (The Young Bucks, Kazuchika Okada & Jack Perry) and Team AEW (FTR, Bryan Danielson & Eddie Kingston) will take place at AEW’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view on Sunday, May 26.
During his time out of action, Omega was “fired” from The Elite and replaced by Okada. The two legendary rivals then interacted on Dynamite last week. Omega challenged Okada to face him when Omega is cleared to compete in a couple of months.
Tony Khan was also laid out by The Elite during an angle in the build to Double or Nothing. In storyline, Khan is not currently cleared to travel to AEW shows.
