AEW has discussed Darby Allin getting World title run

An AEW World Championship run could be in the cards for Darby Allin.

In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter this week, Dave Meltzer mentioned that AEW has seriously discussed Allin getting a run with the World Championship, though it’s not clear when that would happen. Allin is set to challenge either Swerve Strickland or Bryan Danielson for the title at Dynamite Grand Slam next month.

“We’ve heard talk of Allin getting a run as champion no matter who wins [between Strickland and Danielson],” Meltzer wrote. “We know that’s been talked about seriously, but as to when, that’s less clear.”

Strickland is defending the AEW World Championship against Danielson at AEW All In this Sunday. If Danielson loses, he will retire from active competition.

Allin also has a title match scheduled for All In. He’s challenging Jack Perry for the TNT Championship in a Coffin Match.

A member of the AEW roster since 2019, Allin is a former TNT Champion and AEW Tag Team Champion but has never held the World title. He won AEW’s Royal Rampage battle royal last month, earning a World Championship shot at Grand Slam. That show is taking place from Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, New York on Wednesday, September 25.

On Dynamite last night, Allin & FTR defeated Perry & The Young Bucks in a trios match.
