AEW Dynamite set for several weeks following Georgia tapings

As first reported by Wade Keller and confirmed by our Dave Meltzer, AEW taped enough content last week in Georgia, in addition to matches previously taped in Jacksonville, to cover up to several months of Dynamite if need be.

The idea will be to support the matches with interviews and content filmed from various talents who are stuck at home similar to last week’s Young Bucks and Jericho segments. Some of the matches may be used for Dark depending on how things progress with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

AEW’s next big event is Double or Nothing, scheduled for May 23rd in Las Vegas, NV, meaning they would need to cover six weeks of Dynamite if the pay-per-view is somehow able to go forward. All Dynamite live events before that have been postponed.

Keller added that the wrestlers that appeared on this past week’s Dynamite are the same group that taped matches for the upcoming weeks and outside Chris Jericho, no other additional talents flew or drove in for the tapings. AEW wanted to avoid using people from specific hotspots of the country like New York in addition to physically splitting up the roster up as much as possible to help prevent any mass outbreak in case someone has the virus and were asymptomatic.

As AEW had to change plans this week and film Dynamite from QT Marshall’s wrestling school in Norcross, GA, instead of Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida, a report came out Thursday that the show was nearly shut down by Georgia authorities.

That report turned out to be incorrect as owner Tony Khan spoke to Wrestling Inc. to clarify the situation, saying it was a state code enforcement official who wanted to verify that the permits AEW had were being followed, a routine he said happens every week. The company had wrapped up everything prior to the Georgia midnight deadline for all non-essential businesses to shut down.
