Show Report —

“Judas” opened the show.

Chris Jericho addresses Eddie Kingston

The angle at the end will get all the attention, but I have to note that Kingston brought tears to my eyes during his promo.

Jericho actually started by thanking Kingston for bringing something out of him that he didn’t think existed anymore. Unfortunately, Jericho didn’t live up to his word: he refused to shake Kingston’s hand. He wants to make it up to Kingston, so he wants to apologize to him face to face. “Please come out here so I can shake your hand.”

Kingston came out and said he wanted to spend Friday going out and drinking, forgetting his problems. He was afraid. He took a moment to shut down a heckling fan doing a “WHAT!” chant, which was a cool moment. When Kingston had four people come up and say his interview saved their lives, he cried in his hotel room — there was no way he was going to miss the pay-per-view. He hopes he did the fans proud.

That handshake wasn’t for Kingston, though. He won the match. He asked Jericho what was missing inside him that stopped him from living up to his word. What does Kingston have to do to drag out the man Jericho looked up to? Jericho’s still number one, but does that fill the hole in his heart that stops him from showing respect to guys like Kingston?

Jericho said everything Kingston said was right. He has Jericho’s undying respect for giving him one of the best matches of his career. “Please, shake my hand.”

Kingston obliged, but was interrupted by 2point0 and Daniel Garcia, who attacked Jericho and Kingston. Santana and Ortiz ran out to make the save — Ortiz had Floyd. Santana held one of 2point0 up to allow Jericho to hit him with the bat, but Jericho instead hit Santana and Ortiz. Jake Hager ran out and acted surprised, but instead attacked Santana and Ortiz as well. Jericho hit Kingston with the bat for good measure.

2point0 pulled out the timekeeper’s table, and Hager powerbombed Kingston through it from the apron in a brutal spot.

Jericho grabbed a mic and said “This is the Jericho Appreciation Society, and *that’s* entertainment.”

AEW World Championship: Hangman Page (c) defeated Dante Martin

This only went about seven minutes.

After some chain wrestling, Dante strung together some offense with a tijeras and a dropkick. Page shrugged off some chops and somehow turned a crossbody into a fallaway slam after a couple rolls. He hit his springboard apron lariat ahead of the commercial.

Once back, Dante started a comeback with a gamengiri and a missile dropkick for two. He landed a high kick on the apron followed by an Orihara moonsault, but Page countered another dropkick into a powerbomb for two. Page wanted the Buckshot, but Dante recovered and they had a rapid-fire counter exchange before Page hit the Buckshot for the quick win.

– After the match, Schiavone asked Page about his match against Adam Cole. Page instead invited Dante back into the ring and congratulated him for making it all the way to a world title match. “Should you make it back here, I’d be glad to do it again.”

Adam Cole interrupted. He said at Revolution he took Page to his absolute limit, but it was a fluke victory. Next week, Cole’s challenging Page to a six-man tag team match, and Cole’s two partners know Page very well, and they’re his friends, not Page’s. Cole will not stop until he gets what he wants.

During the commercial, Tony Khan posted on Twitter that PAC vs. Wheeler YUTA was added to tonight’s card as a standby match, and because Page vs. Dante didn’t go very long, it will happen tonight.

Bryan Danielson & Jon Moxley (w/ William Regal) defeated The WorkHorsemen (JD Drake & Anthony Henry)

This was a super entertaining all-out sprint. The WorkHorsemen have been a great team for years, and I hope they sign (and Drake moves on from the Wingmen). The post-match was incredible, and Regal gave me my *second* bout of tears on the night. That’s not normal!

Danielson and Moxley attacked right at the bell. Moxley started with Drake and immediately took him down with a backdrop suplex. Danielson tagged in and laid in Yes kicks concluded with the buzzsaw. Drake forced Danielson into his corner and tagged in Henry, who laid in strikes before being cut off with a knee lift.

Moxley tagged in and continued the beatdown before Danielson re-entered the match and locked on a Romero special. Moxley bit at Henry while Danielson was in the hold and hit an X-plex. Henry came back with a missile dropkick and tagged in Drake.

Drake laid in hard chops and slaps on Moxley, who returned the favor and hit a rebound lariat. Moxley completely whiffed on a tope suicida but hit the Paradigm Shift on Henry as Danielson tagged in and hit the Busaiku Knee on Drake. Danielson kicked Drake’s head in and applied the LeBell lock for the submission as Regal looked on approvingly.

– After the match, Schiavone welcomed Regal to AEW. Regal said time flies, and he’s lived a hard life. He’s not long for this world — too many empty bottles. What he’s out here to do is thank Schiavone. He helped Regal in more ways than he can imagine.

“Enough being nice.” Regal’s no longer required in his old job, and he had completely checked out of the industry — until someone told him Danielson mentioned him on Dynamite. He then found out Danielson would fight Moxley. The only reason you know the name “Regal” is because of Danielson. What Regal can do is make someone who wants to work hard a better professional wrestler.

Regal said Danielson is the wrestler he should have been. “He is the perfect wrestler.” They trained for hours and hours every day for months. Danielson became the person Regal could never be because he doesn’t have the problems Regal has.

And then he met Moxley, and the problems they shared with each other would make the devil cry. After the match on Sunday, Regal thought, “what better combination than the perfect wrestler and the one who would take things further than anyone else?” To anyone who steps in the ring with them, you won’t like the outcome, and “you will get stepped on.”

The Dark Order were backstage and asked about their relationship with Adam Page. Page walked up and apologized for shoving them. Silver asked who would team with Page next week, but Page already ran into Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus, who said they wanted a piece of the Young Bucks next week. Page awkwardly apologized and walked off.

**********

PAC (w/ Penta Oscuro & Alex Abrahantes) defeated Wheeler YUTA (w/ Best Friends)

They performed some quick chain wrestling leading into a commercial. PAC was dominating upon return, but YUTA came back with a release German suplex. He followed it up with a top-rope crossbody for two. PAC hit a German into a bridge for two, then an avalanche brainbuster. He then locked on the Brutalizer for the submission.

**********

Adam Cole, The Young Bucks, and reDRagon were backstage. Cole was disappointed that nobody left Revolution with gold, but the two teams started arguing. Cole started talking about his partners for next week. The Young Bucks didn’t want to do it, but Cole said he wasn’t talking about them, he was talking about reDRagon.

**********

FTR and Tully Blanchard were asked about their next move. Dax said professional wrestling is his first love, and he’s looking at the Young Bucks and reDRagon next so he can look his daughter in the eye. Tully cut him off and said they’re losing focus, and they should be going after championships. Dax and Tully got in each other’s faces, but then Cash cut Tully off and fired him.

A.H.F.O. Emergency Board Meeting

Matt Hardy was heated right away, but Andrade wasn’t having it. Matt said every time he puts on a suit, he transforms into an asshole — and Andrade knows all about that. Andrade said to put it to a vote, but Matt was adamant that Private Party would never vote him out. Private Party voted to keep him, but then they turned their thumbs down with his back turned. Andrade said that in this business, you always need to watch your back. The rest of A.H.F.O. all attacked Matt.

Darby Allin’s music played and he and Sting emerged. They attacked A.H.F.O. (A.H.O.?) but were overwhelmed by the numbers game.

Then some familiar played and JEFF HARDY came out to make the save, sending everyone packing. Blade was left in the ring, and Matt hit him with the Twist of Fate before Jeff hit the Swanton Bomb. He’s #AllElite!

**********

Shane “Swerve” Strickland was backstage, and he’s debuting this Friday on Rampage. Tony Nese interrupted and sarcastically congratulated him before challenging him to a match. Swerve said he’d “bless him” like he used to, because it’s Swerve’s house.

Wardlow interview

For someone’s first ever extended promo segment, this was sensational. Wardlow came across as such a babyface without losing any of his intensity.

Schiavone asked Wardlow what was next, as he’s still under contract with MJF. Wardlow said it was time to stop supporting someone else’s dreams and fulfilling his own. He knew MJF wasn’t a good person, and he hopes everyone can forgive him for associating with him, but Wardlow grew up poor, and that granted him the opportunity to provide for his family and give them a better life.

MJF gave Wardlow his foot in the door, and for that, he thanks him. However, that doesn’t give him the right to disrespect, threaten, and put his hands on him. Wardlow is still under contract with MJF — he just doesn’t give a damn. He is no longer watching MJF’s back, he isn’t a member of the Pinnacle, and he is finally free.

If MJF releases Wardlow from his contract, they can go their separate ways. From now on, the only thing he cares about is winning the TNT Championship and earning an AEW contract. As of right now, AEW is officially Wardlow’s world.

**********

Keith Lee and QT Marshall were backstage. QT welcomed Lee to AEW, and he said that he noticed Lee has an issue with Ricky Starks and Powerhouse Hobbs. He let Lee know that he and the Factory have his back. Lee: “I have a very large back, and I’m good.” QT said Lee would pay.

AEW World Tag Team Championships: Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus (c) (w/ Christian Cage) defeated The Acclaimed (Max Caster & Anthony Bowens)

The Acclaimed attacked right away, but Jungle Boy fought them both off before Luchasaurus took down Caster with an overhand chop. A double team senton got two. A distraction from Bowens, who wasn’t the legal man, allowed The Acclaimed to take control ahead of the break.

Back from commercial, Jungle Boy hit the rebound lariat and reached Luchasaurus for the hot tag. The dinosaur ran wild on The Acclaimed, concluding with a double clothesline. Out on the floor, Luchasaurus avoided a boom box shot and Jungle Boy took them out with a flip dive. Luchasaurus hit a chokeslam and a standing moonsault, but Bowens broke up the pin.

Jungle Boy went for a doomsday escalera move, but Bowens pushed him off the top rope. The Acclaimed hit the Mic Drop, but Luchasaurus broke up the pin for a decent near fall. Caster took out Luchasaurus and The Acclaimed a combination driver of some sort for a good near fall.

Christian stopped Caster from using illegal tactics and Jungle Boy rolled up Bowens for two. Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus hit an escalera Doomsday Device, Luchasaurus dispatched Caster with the Tail Whip, and Jungle Boy pinned Bowens to retain the titles.

Jade Cargill and Mark Sterling asked, “who’s next?” The next win will bring Jade to 30-0. She asked who wants to step up and receive her kiss of death.

AEW Women’s World Championship Eliminator: Thunder Rosa defeated “Legit” Leyla Hirsch

Rosa outwrestled Hirsch early on. She went for an early Fire Thunder Driver, but Hirsch fought out and stomped on Rosa’s arm. She continued to target Rosa’s left arm through the commercial. Back from break, Rosa hit repeated low dropkicks and a Northern Lights suplex for two. Hirsch came back with a German suplex bridge for two of her own.

Hirsch climbed the ropes, but Rosa cut her off at the top and hit a superplex into a fireman’s carry neckbreaker. A sliding lariat followed for two. Hirsch went for the turnbuckle that she used to beat Kris Statlander, but Red Velvet ran out to stop her. Hirsch instead locked on a cross armbreaker, forcing Rosa to reach the ropes.

Rosa hit a sunset flip for two, then hit the Fire Thunder Driver for three. She will face Britt Baker for the AEW Women’s World Championship next week.

– After the match, Schiavone announced that next week’s women’s title match would take place in a steel cage.

The camera went backstage to Britt Baker and co. She didn’t understand why Rosa got another shot right away, and she thinks there’s a conspiracy. Jamie Hayter will face Mercedes Martinez this Friday on Rampage. Baker’s afraid of what happens when “carny riff-raff” like Thunder Rosa becomes champion.

TNT Championship: Scorpio Sky (w/ Ethan Page & Dan Lambert) defeated Sammy Guevara (c) to win the championship

They traded strikes to start. Guevara dropkicked Sky, forcing him to roll to the floor to recover. Guevara repeatedly sent Sky into the barricade before pulling out a table. Sky cut Guevara off, but Guevara regained control with a thrust kick. He rolled Sky onto the table, but Sky rolled out of the way of the 630 senton as Guevara crashed and burned. Tay Conti came out to check on him ahead of the commercial, during which he was helped up the ramp by Conti and Doc Sampson.

Once back, Guevara had a change of heart and made his way back into the ring, spitting in Sky’s face. Sky immediately sent him out of the ring, where Paige Van Zant got in Conti’s face. Back in the ring, Sky hit multiple backbreakers. Guevara got a flash roll-up for two and laid in chops before hitting the double springboard cutter for a near fall.

Sky went for the TKO, but Guevara hit a thrust kick and then the GTH, but Sky rolled underneath the ropes. Guevara went for a shooting star press, but Sky got his knees up. Van Zant attacked Conti from behind as she argued with Page. Guevara was distracted by the attack, allowing Sky to hit the TKO to win the match and the championship.

– After the match, Sky attacked Guevara with the belt and Van Zant planted Conti on top of her boyfriend. Van Zant signed an AEW contract and American Top Team posed to close the show.
