AEW Dynamite live results: Tony Khan’s huge announcement

AEW president and GM Tony Khan has promised a “huge announcement” on tonight’s final Dynamite before Sunday’s Revolution pay-per-view.

Khan will appear live on the show to deliver the announcement in person.

Also set for tonight’s broadcast, AEW World Champion Hangman Adam Page, John Silver, and Alex Reynolds will face Adam Cole, Bobby Fish, and Kyle O’Reilly.

A Tag Team Casino Battle Royale will be held to determine the third team who will take part in Sunday’s World Tag Team title match at the pay-per-view. Fish and O’Reilly won a battle royale on last week’s episode to earn their spot in the match for Jungle Boy and Luchasarus’s Tag titles at Revolution.

AEW Women’s World Champion Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. and Jamie Hayter will team tonight against Thunder Rosa and Mercedes Martinez. Baker is set to defend her title against Rosa at Revolution.

Tonight’s Dynamite takes place in Jacksonville, Florida at Daily’s Place.

Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

Show Report —

Tony Khan was in the ring with Schiavone to start the show. TK talked up this week as the biggest week in AEW history and put over the fans for supporting the company through the pandemic. Almost three years ago, AEW started, but over a decade before that, another new company innovated. And today, Tony Khan became the new owner of Ring of Honor.

AEW has two ROH originals who fought on that first show, but neither won that night — so it’s time to settle that score.

Bryan Danielson defeated Christopher Daniels

These two wrestled in a three-way on the very first ROH show in history, but it was the third man – Low-Ki – who won that match. Tonight’s match was great.

Both men performed chain wrestling to start the match. Danielson trapped Daniels’ arms into a unique pinning predicament for two, then Daniels came back with a baseball slide and a rebound moonsault to the floor.

Back in the ring, Danielson countered a diving crossbody with a mid kick. He targeted Daniels’ midsection with repeated stomps and kicks. Daniels came back with chops and a Blue Thunder bomb to start a comeback. He then hit an STO and an Iconoclasm for two.

Danielson eventually cut his opponent off and beat him down in the corner. They fought on the top rope, where Daniels sent Danielson to the mat and landed a diving crossbody – but Danielson countered it into a roll-up. They exchanged cradles and near falls. A rolling elbow strike from Danielson got another near fall.

In the corner, Daniels went for another Iconoclasm, but Danielson stopped it. Danielson went for a top-rope Frankensteiner, but Danielson shrugged it off. Daniels turned a dive into a uranage, but Danielson countered the Best Moonsault Ever into a triangle sleeper for the referee stoppage.

– After the match, Danielson said it used to be tradition to shake someone’s hand before and after a match — but he’s not in ROH, he’s in AEW, and he subsequently kicked Daniels’ head in. At Revolution, he’ll stomp Moxley’s head.

Moxley’s music played and he came out. He said Danielson is better than ever. He could either get his head kicked in on Sunday and fade into oblivion, or he could walk the path of fire through Danielson and beat the American Dragon. “The story of Jon Moxley is just starting,” and the first chapter will be written in blood. He demanded that Danielson take his shot.

Danielson feigned squaring up to Moxley, but he ultimately walked back up the ramp and posed.

Darby Allin and Sting were backstage. Sting said there would be repercussions for anyone who tried to get involved in the upcoming triple threat match on Rampage. Allin said he wouldn’t need anyone’s help, but on Sunday, he and Guevara are teaming up no matter what. On Rampage, for the TNT Championship, it’s “showtime.”

Matt Jackson of the Young Bucks last eliminated Darius Martin to win the Casino Tag Team Royale

Teams entered at 90-second intervals, and both members had to be eliminated.

The first two entrants were FTR and Top Flight, featuring the returning Darius Martin. Top Flight took FTR down early on with some acrobatics. The Acclaimed were first in, with Max Caster doing his rap schtick as usual. The Dark Order’s Alan Angels and 10 were next, followed by The Butcher and The Blade. Angels was the first elimination as FTR sent him crashing onto the ramp.

Next was the Varsity Blonds as the match continued in picture and picture. Pillman was eliminated during the break, then Bear Country made their entrance. Back from commercial, Santana and Ortiz came out. They quickly eliminated both of Bear Country. Dante Martin eliminated Caster, then the Best Friends were next.

Bowens eliminated Garrison, meaning the Varsity Blonds were done. The Dark Order’s Stu Grayson and Evil Uno were out next. 10 eliminated Blade, then all three Dark Order members took out Butcher, eliminating that team. FTR hit the Big Rig on Bowens and Angels, but didn’t eliminate them.

The Young Bucks were out next. They faced off with FTR ahead of a commercial, during which the Wingmen came out. Once back, the Gunn Club entered, but they were immediately eliminated by FTR and the Young Bucks. Brock Anderson and Lee Johnson were next. Bowens attacked 10’s mask to eliminate him (and by extension his team), then Ortiz eliminated Chuck Taylor. The Wingmen were taken out next, then Bowens took out Stu Grayson, his third elimination of the match.

2point0 were the final entrants. The Bucks eliminated Lee Johnson, then Top Flight eliminated Bowens. Uno and Trent fought on the apron, but Danhausen appeared and put a curse on Uno, allowing Trent to eliminate him. Santana and Ortiz eliminated 2point0, but then FTR sent them to the floor. Matt Jackson eliminated Trent.

The final three teams were FTR, Top Flight, and the Young Bucks. Cash avoided Dante’s double springboard moonsault, but Dante turned a powerbomb attempt into a hurricanrana, eliminating them both. A distraction from reDRagon allowed the Bucks to eliminate Harwood (and FTR by extension).

Darius Martin faced off with both Bucks and had a nice flurry of offense but was overwhelmed by the numbers advantage. He nearly eliminated Nick, but Brandon Cutler saved him; however, Darius then sent Matt into Nick, eliminating the latter.

Matt and Darius had a really tense battle for the final elimination as they traded strikes on the apron, but Matt eventually hit a low blow and a superkick to eliminate his opponent and win.

– After the match, the Bucks and reDRagon celebrated before Jungle Boy, Luchasaurus, and Christian Cage appeared on the ramp.

Chris Jericho was backstage, saying the wrestling world was buzzing after his promo segment with Eddie Kingston last week. He wants Kingston to look deep inside to see if he’s really that guy. If Kingston beats him, he’ll shake his hand, and he’ll have Jericho’s undying respect. But if he loses, he’ll tell Kingston to G.F.Y.

Santana and Ortiz walked up and tentatively fist-bumped him. Jericho asked “Are we good?” but received no answer.

CM Punk promo

This was one of the greatest promo segments in modern wrestling history. I got legitimately emotional at Punk’s words and MJF’s inevitable display of hatred couldn’t have come across better.

This past week, Punk woke up in the morning and asked himself, “Am I the bad guy?” He said that he thought MJF speaking up took courage, but he can’t shake the feeling that he’s being gaslit. Punk has a young photo with Steve Austin; when he left wrestling, Punk didn’t lash out at the world. He’s seen MJF do terrible things like attack Dean Malenko and insult Brian Pillman and Darby Allin’s uncle. It’s not Punk’s fault that MJF is this way, and there’s nothing he can say that will change things — but he needs MJF to come out here.

MJF came out but didn’t say anything. Punk said he used to be that guy, referencing past angles he was involved in like Paul Bearer’s urn and Jeff Hardy’s addiction. But this is about the kid at home who looks up to MJF just as he looked up to Punk. When he asked himself, “Are you the good guy?” He had an answer: “I sure am trying.”

Punk extended a hand to MJF, but MJF pushed it aside and went in for a hug. Punk hesitated, but he eventually returned the hug. As they separated and stared at each other, MJF kicked Punk between the legs and hit the Heatseeker.

Wardlow and Shawn Spears emerged with the Dynamite diamond ring and a dog collar chain. MJF punched Punk with the ring, busting him open. FTR came out to run interference on AEW security. Spears tied the dog collar around Punk’s neck, and MJF grabbed a mic.

“You stupid, stupid old man. I’m a snake.” MJF said that this Sunday, at Revolution, he’s the devil himself. MJF hung Spears by his neck over the top rope. Finally, Darby Allin, Sting, and Sammy Guevara ran out, forcing the Pinnacle to scatter.

Keith Lee was backstage with Schiavone, but before he could speak, Ricky Starks and Powerhouse Hobbs interrupted. Starks said he’d see Lee soon.

Thunder Rosa & Mercedes Martinez defeated Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. & Jamie Hayter (w/ Rebel)

The teams brawled before the bell. Baker and Martinez isolated Baker in the ring as the match became underway. Hayter tagged in and faced off with Martinez, Interference from Rebel, who blatantly grabbed Rosa’s leg in front of the official, allowed Baker’s team to take control ahead of the commercial.

Once back, Martinez got the hot tag and hit a T-bone suplex on Hayter for two. Hayter came back with an STO for two of her own. With the two heavies down, Baker and Rosa tagged in, with the latter starching Baker with a slap. They traded big strikes in the middle of the ring until Rosa hit a Death Valley driver for a near fall.

Martinez took out Hayter and Rebel and then Rosa hit the Fire Thunder Driver out of nowhere to pin the champion.

Tay Conti was interviewed backstage about her upcoming TBS Championship match, but Jade Cargill showed up and belittled her.

**********

A Kris Statlander/Leyla Hirsch hype video aired. This was good, simple build for a midcard women’s feud, something AEW has sorely missed.

Wardlow (w/ Shawn Spears) defeated Cezar Bononi

Wardlow immediately gave Bononi the powerbomb symphony (a gentleman’s three this time) for the squash win.

– After the match, Spears tried to smash Bononi with the chair, but Wardlow stopped him.

MJF, Wardlow, and Shawn Spears were backstage. MJF said he’d let Wardlow keep the TNT Championship if he wins it, but it’s not like he’ll win it anyway. Wardlow protested, so MJF straight-up slapped him and threatened to fire him, putting his family out on the street.

Adam Cole & reDRagon (Kyle O’Reilly, & Bobby Fish) defeated Hangman Page & Dark Order (John Silver, & Alex Reynolds)

The champion and challenger started things off for their respective sides, but Cole immediately backed into his corner and tagged in Fish. Page took him down with a big boot. Silver and O’Reilly tagged in, with Silver using his power to maintain control. He and Reynolds worked together to keep reDRagon at bay.

Page got a tag, but O’Reilly feinted to the floor and made a subtle tag to Fish, allowing him to chop down Page’s leg. Cole tagged in and Page teased the Deadeye, but Cole sent him to the apron and avoided a Buckshot Lariat tease ahead of the break.

Upon return, Cole and reDRagon were isolating Silver in their corner. Page finally got the hot tag and ran completely wild on everyone before hitting a pop-up powerbomb on O’Reilly for two. Cole got a tag and faced off with Page, and they traded strikes in the center of the ring. Their partners then did the same.

There was a parade of big moves, with Cole hitting a ushigoroshi on Silver and Page leveling Cole with a lariat. Reynolds tagged in but ran into a superkick before the Boom gave Cole the win.

– After the match, the heels beat down Reynolds, but Page fought off everyone. He set up for the Buckshot on Cole, but Fish kicked out Page’s ankle and Cole beat him down. reDRagon then duct taped Page to the ropes and forced him to watch as they hit Silver with the High Low and Reynolds with the Panama Sunrise. Cole superkicked Page and whacked him with the belt to close the show.
