AEW Dark results: Skye Blue vs. Red Velvet, CM Punk appearance

It’s Saturday and you know what that means: a special edition of AEW Dark with an eleven match card, taped Friday on the NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.

2point0 (w/ Daniel Garcia) defeated Rosario Grillo & Hunter Knott

This was a short match that 2point0 (5-1) won with the Two for the Show. After the match, 2point0 and Garcia attacked Grillo and Knott.

Wheeler Yuta (w/ Orange Cassidy & Chuck Taylor) defeated Baron Black

This was a showcase match for Yuta and for that, there was no better opponent for him than Black. Yuta won with the Seatbelt which is a really cool small package variant. Yuta’s singles record is 6-7 ahead of the 10-man tag team match for the Buy-In pre-show tomorrow.

Julia Hart (w/ Varsity Blonds) defeated Heather Reckless

This was a good showcase for Hart. She seemed to injure her right knee during the last moments of the match, but still picked up the win to up her record to 6-8. Later on the show, Nyla Rose and Jade Cargill attacked her, taking her out of the women’s Casino Battle Royale.

Hikaru Shida defeated Missa Kate

This was Kate’s second match in AEW. Kate got in more offense in this match than in the previous one. Shida (40-4) won with the Falcon Arrow ahead of Sunday’s Battle Royale.

Red Velvet defeated Skye Blue

Blue got a great reception as she is a native of Illinois so Velvet worked as a heel. One of the highlights was Velvet countering a cazadora into a bulldog. Velvet (25-6) won with the Final Slice in a really good match.

This was a really good performance for Blue and AEW should offer her a contract as she has a lot of potential. After the match, Tony Khan came out and offered her a spot in the Casino Battle Royale which was accepted.

Wardlow & Shawn Spears (w/ Tully Blanchard) defeated Brandon Gore & JDX

This was Gore and JDX’s debut as an AEW tag team. During the match, Blanchard intervened and the crowd loved it. Once Wardlow was in the match, it was over for JDX and Gore. Wardlow hit the Casualty of War and that was it.

Dark Order’s John Silver & 10 (w/ Alan Angels) defeated Zachariah & Ren Jones

This was the AEW tag team debut of Zachariah and Ren. 10 and Silver got a great reaction. Silver was able to showcase by carrying both opponents on his shoulders. 10 got the win with a full nelson.

Penelope Ford (w/ The Bunny) defeated Queen Aminata

This was the return of Aminata to AEW as her last match for the promotion was last June against Kris Statlander. Ford (12-4) won by submission with a Muta lock.

Frankie Kazarian defeated Dean Alexander

One of the interesting things was that Alexander looks a lot like Kazarian. Anyway, Kazarian (25-4) won this match by submission with the chicken wing.

Jade Cargill (w/ Mark Sterling) defeated Blair Onyx

This was Onyx’s third match in AEW. This was a squash that Jade (12-0) won, leading into the Battle Royale.

Jurassic Express (w/ Marko Stunt) defeated Chaos Project

Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus got one of the best pops of the show. Once again, Chaos Project used their gimmick of Luther using Serpentico as a weapon during the match. Jurassic Empress (11-3) won with the Thoracic Express.

After the match, CM Punk came out to celebrate. He and the crowd were singing the Golden Girls theme and it was great. Punk also cut a really good promo and teased a match with Jungle Boy happening one day.

Final Thoughts:

As usual, Taz and Excalibur were great on commentary and a highlight of the show. This episode featured a lot of promos from the women’s division ahead of the Casino Battle Royale. My match of the night was Velvet vs. Blue.
