AEW Dark results: Joey Janela vs. Sonny Kiss no rules match

It’s Tuesday and you know what that means: another episode of AEW Dark matches were taped at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.

Anna Jay (w/ Tay Conti) defeated Reka Tehaka

Jay (11-5) won this quick match by submission with the Queen Slayer.

The Blade (w/ The Bunny) defeated Toa Liona

Liona’s strength was showcased in this short match. Blade (22-12) used his brass knuckles to pick up the win.

Wardlow defeated Casanova

This was the AEW debut for Casanova. Earlier on the show, Wardlow and Shawn Spears had a backstage interview with Tony Schiavone about the match and Wardlow’s multiple power bombs. Wardlow hit four consecutive power bombs to win as promised, upping his record to 28-3. Fun fact: Casanova’s gear was paying homage to the popular Dragon Ball Z.

Diamante defeated Shawna Reed

This was a more competitive match than expected, but a combination of a suplex to the turnbuckle and knees to Reed’s face ended this. Diamante’s record is now 21-13.

Tony Nese defeated Anthony Greene

Earlier, Greene talked with Schiavone about the match and trying to prove Nese wrong.

Greene tried to play some mind games with Nese, and hit a great combo of a tope suicida and a hurricanrana to take the lead. It ended with Nese blindsiding Greene with the ring apron cover and following it up with an outside top rope guillotine. Nese (6-1) hit a German suplex into the corner and a knee strike to give him the win.

The Bunny (w/ The Blade) defeated KiLynn King

The Bunny (27-18) won this short match with Down the Rabbit Hole.

The Acclaimed defeated Bear Country

Max Caster’s entrance rap was all about bear puns and was pretty funny. Right after the match started, Anthony Bowens still had the mic and tried to cut a promo, but Bear Country interrupted him. This also had some great commentary about bears from Taz and Excalibur.

The Acclaimed isolated Bear Bronson and worked his neck most of the time. Bear Boulder cleaned house with a hot tag, hitting a big double flatliner. Bear Country tried to go for a double cannonball into the corner on Caster, but Boulder’s back was too injured. The Acclaimed (22-5) used that to their advantage and picked up the win with a simple roll-up.

Skye Blue defeated Ashley D’Amboise

Blue (3-7) dominated this short match and won in quick fashion with a modified flatliner.

Orange Cassidy & Wheeler Yuta defeated The Wingmen (Cezar Bononi & Peter Avalon)

The match started with The Wingmen focusing on Yuta, but once Cassidy got the tag, the flow turned in their favor. Cassidy tried to go for a tope suicida but Bononi caught him, only for Yuta and Cassidy to try again with double tope suicidas which hit the target. Cassidy landed the Orange Punch on Avalon for the win.

Joey Janela (w/ Kayla Rossi) defeated Sonny Kiss in a no DQ, no countout, no rules match

Before the match started, Kiss grabbed a garbage can and threw it to Rossi to even the odds. Kiss hit an impressive hurricanrana on Rossi to the outside. He tried to follow up with a moonsault from the steel steps, but Janela was able to avoid it at the last second. Rossi returned and helped Janela with an assisted power bomb to Kiss into the steel steps.

Janela and Kiss fought for a while on one of the turnbuckles which ended with Kiss hitting a tornado DDT onto several chairs. Kiss went for a frog splash from the top of a ladder onto Rossi and Janela who were laid out on a table. Janela finished things off and picked up the win with a Gotch-style piledriver from the top of the stage through a table.

Final Thoughts:

Excalibur and Taz are always fun to listen to and are the most entertaining commentary duo in wrestling. The match of the night was Kiss vs. Janela with Nese vs. Greene also worth checking out.
