AEW Dark results: Hangman Page in action, two title eliminator matches

It’s Tuesday and you know what that means: a super-sized AEW Dark taped last Saturday in Charlotte, North Carolina, with Taz and Excalibur on the call.

Shawn Dean defeated Liam Cross (2:27)

Dean shrugged off a slingshot senton from Cross to come back with a DDT and a swan dive splash off the top rope for the win. “The Captain” is now 2-0 in 2022.

Anthony Ogogo defeated Baron Black (4:23)

There were no other members of The Factory with Ogogo since they had bigger fish to fry later tonight (no, not Bobby Fish). Ogogo caught Black with an overhead belly-to-belly suplex. Black caught Ogogo with a hammerlock backstabber and went for a crossface, but Ogogo countered with a high angle throw and a headbutt. 

Ogogo finished Black with the Tower of London: an assisted cutter out of the corner. It’s a cool move, but it takes way too long to set up and is probably too convoluted to use against only the lowliest of jobbers.

Red Velvet defeated Shalonce Royal (1:19)

Royal is the opera singing enhancement talent from a few weeks back, singing in between offensive moves and inspiring Taz to do the same. Royal attacked Velvet before the bell, but her advantage didn’t last and Velvet got the win after the Final Slice.

Gunn Club defeated Patrick Scott, Marcus Kross & T.I.M. (0:33)

Billy Gunn is sporting an “A** Boys” shirt in honor (I guess) of his sons. Colton and Austin left and Billy Gunn dispatched their three opponents by himself, winning with the Famouser.

You can’t spell “unnecessarily long episodes of Dark” without “Gunn Club.”

Tay Conti & Anna Jay defeated The Renegade Twins (3:44)

Both Charlette and Robyn Renegade were on Dark recently in individual losses to Brandi Rhodes and Abadon, respectively. Conti suplexed one of the twins and hit the other with the TayKO. Jay locked the Queenslayer on one of the Renegades and Conti locked in her inverted crossface submission to get the double submission.

Orange Cassidy defeated JD Drake (w/ two masked men) (9:03)

Cassidy got the first big pop of the show.

Cassidy was able to avoid Drake’s big chops early on, but then caught one and sold it like he was shot with a cannon. Cassidy dodged a senton and tried to slam Drake, but Drake’s massive size made that impossible. Drake easily slammed Cassidy. Cassidy later sent him to the floor, but when he tried a tope suicida, Drake caught him and hit his rebound uppercut on the floor. The masked guys attacked Cassidy on the floor while Drake distracted the referee.

Back in the ring, Drake hit Cassidy with a senton and worked a chinlock. Taz and Excalibur surmised that the masked men on the floor were probably two of the Wingmen. Cassidy came back with a flying crossbody and went for a slam, which Drake blocked. Cassidy hit the masked men on the floor with a tope suicida and nailed Drake with a spinning DDT. Drake came back with a cannonball in the corner for a near fall.

Drake dumped Cassidy to the floor for the masked men to attack, but Wheeler Yuta and Chuck Taylor ran in to take them out. Back in the ring, Drake got a near fall with a Black Hole Slam, but missed a moonsault. Cassidy hit the bodyslam he was working for the whole match, followed by the Orange Punch to get the win in a really fun match.

Dante Martin defeated Aaron Solo (3:14)

This was a chance for Martin to shine before his match Wednesday with Powerhouse Hobbs. Martin hit the double jump moonsault to get the win.

Eddie Kingston defeated Joey Janela (w/ Kayla Rossi) (8:31)

Kingston was selling injuries from the beating he took in the no dq match on Friday’s Rampage. Despite working independents all over the Northeast for years, this was the first meeting between Janela and Kingston.

Kingston lit up Janela in the corner with machine gun chops. The fight went to the floor and Janela hit a rolling elbow. Janela went to the top, but “fell” into the ring to distract the referee so Rossi could hit Kingston with a standing moonsault. Janela caught Kingston with a dragon screw legwhip in the ropes to further injure Kingston’s already beat up knee.

Janela worked over Kingston’s leg with a knee bar. Janela went for a figure-four, but Kingston knocked him out of the ring and followed Janela out of the ring with a tope suicida. Back in the ring, Kingston battered Janela with chops in the corner and followed up with a vertical suplex. 

Kingston hit a German suplex and a bridge for two. Janela power bombed Kingston out of the corner and nailed him with a kick. Janela went to the top, but Kingston crotched him and took him to the mat with an exploder superplex.

The fight went to the floor where Kingston absolutely mauled Janela with a slap. Rossi tried to attack from the top, but Kingston got out of the way and Rossi splashed Janela instead. Back in the ring, Kingston finished Janela with a Northern Lights bomb to get the pinfall in another good match.

Thunder Rosa defeated Kasey Fox (1:59)

Fox made her AEW debut in this loss. Rosa hit a death valley driver and tied up Fox with the peruvian necktie to get the quick submission victory.

Powerhouse Hobbs defeated Alexander Moss (0:22)

Hobbs hit Moss with an avalanche and put him in the torture rack for the quick submission victory.

Daniel Garcia defeated Fuego Del Sol

Alex Marvez interviewed Garcia earlier as he has a match against interim TNT champion Sammy Guevara on Dynamite.

Del Sol got some shine early. Garcia came back with a shotgun dropkick, dropped him head first with a high-angle snow plow and then slapped on the sharpshooter to get the submission victory.

After the match, Garcia left the hold on far too long, leading to Guevara running out to make the save.

AEW TBS Champion Jade Cargill (w/ Mark Sterling) defeated Skye Blue in a title eliminator match (1:57)

Marvez interviewed Sterling and Cargill about the stakes for the match tonight where if Blue wins, she gets a future title shot. However, if Blue loses, she can never challenge for the TBS title as long as Cargill is champion.

Jade hit a pump kick and a fallaway slam. Jade went for another fallaway slam, but Blue fought out of it and hit a superkick. Blue went for a cazadora, but Cargill countered that into the Jaded slam for the victory.

AEW World Tag Team Champions Jurassic Express defeated Nick Comoroto & QT Marshall in a title eliminator match (8:20)

There was no Christian Cage with Jurassic Express. I guess he doesn’t get paid to work on YouTube.

Jungle Boy and Marshall started out and Marshall gave Jungle Boy a punch from behind to get the advantage. Comoroto dropped a big elbow for a near fall. Marshall hit a back elbow for a near fall. Marshall and Comoroto were not a scintillating combination here.

Comoroto got a near fall after a backbreaker and worked a chinlock on Jungle Boy. Jungle Boy came back with his rebound lariat and then countered a suplex attempt from Marshall into a hurricanrana followed by the hot tag to Luchasaurus.

Luchasaurus took the fight to both his opponents, taking them down with a double clothesline. Luchasaurus caught Comoroto with the tail whip and then a hook kick. Comoroto went for a Diamond Cutter, but Luchasaurus blocked and both men took each other out with a double clothesline. Marshall hit Jungle Boy with a pop-up uppercut and Comoroto followed up with a spear for a near fall.

Luchasaurus drove Comoroto down head first out of a tijeras and Jungle Boy dove in with a DDT for a near fall. Luchasaurus took out Comoroto with a rolling fireman’s carry slam and Jungle Boy sprung over Luchasaurus to take out Marshall with a canadian destroyer. Luchasaurus then got the pin on Comoroto.

AEW World Champion Hangman Page and Dark Order’s Alan Angels & Preston “10” Vance defeated Matt Hardy, Serpentico & Isiah Kassidy (14:23)

Earlier in the night, Marvez (who really earned his paycheck tonight) interviewed Hardy about the stipulations: if Hardy’s side wins, he gets a World title match on Dynamite tomorrow night.

This was Page’s Dark debut (he’s wrestled on Dark: Elevation). A slightly mistimed sideslam/inverted DDT combo from Vance and Angels got Vance a near fall. Serpentico got the tag and was immediately overpowered by Vance. Vance held up Serpentico for a vertical suplex and handed him off to Page to finish the move.

Hardy tripped Page while he was running the ropes, allowing Kassidy and Serpentico to get a brief advantage. Page and Angels double-teamed Kassidy. Serpentico ran in to flip off Angels and when Angels chased him out of the ring, he ran into an attack from Hardy who got a few minutes of shine in the ring against Angels.

Kassidy hit a slingshot senton on Angels for a near fall. After an overly long heat segment on Angels, he got the hot tag to Vance. Vance hit clotheslines and pump kicks on everyone and then took out Kassidy with a spinebuster. Vance went for the full nelson on Kassidy, but Hardy broke it up with a neckbreaker. Serpentico and Kassidy went for Poetry in Motion on Vance, but Vance caught Serpentico and slammed him on Kassidy instead. Kassidy took some ugly bumps in this match.

The match finally settled into old rivals Page vs. Hardy. Hardy went for a Twist of Fate, but Page countered with his own. Angels flew in with a frog splash for a near fall. Hardy hit Splash Mountain for a near fall. Hardy and Kassidy were dumped to the floor and Serpentico unsuccessfully tried to dive on all three of his opponents.

Angels hit the wing clipper on Serpentico, Vance slapped on the full nelson, and Page dropped him with a pop-up powerbomb. Page hit the Buckshot lariat for the pin in a match that dragged on way too long for the point it served.

Final Thoughts:

The main event was about twice as long as it needed to be. The tag team eliminator match, Kingston vs. Janela and Cassidy vs. Drake were fun and worth seeking out.
