AEW Dark results: Danhausen vs. Peter Avalon, Matt Hardy vs. Angelico

This week’s AEW Dark was taped in Chicago, Illinois, over All Out weekend. 

Excalibur and Taz were on commentary because apparently it’s illegal for AEW to tape a show without Excalibur and Taz on commentary.

Penelope Ford defeated Alice Crowley (3:20)

I feel like they have lost the plot with Kip Sabian and the box over his head. Ford was dominant although Crowley did land a hard chop that left a mark. Ford dropkicked Crowley from behind while she was slumped in the ropes, hit a handspring elbow in the corner, and charged in with a boot. Ford got the submission victory with the Muta Lock.

In the back, Alex Marvez reported on a commotion in Hikaru Shida’s locker room. Rebel and Britt Baker emerged, having apparently laid out Shida to keep her from teaming with Toni Storm on Dynamite tomorrow night. It was announced later in the show that Athena will take Shida’s place, teaming with interim Women’s Champion Toni Storm against Baker and Serena Deeb.

Dante Martin & Matt Sydal defeated The Wingmen (Cezar Bononi & Nick Nemeth) (6:19)

Taz made a joke about his long-running lawsuit with Martin. I’m not sure this is the time to be making lawsuit jokes in AEW, but here we are.

Early in the match, there was a really sloppy dive from Martin and Sydal as they tried a hip toss off the apron but wound up basically falling onto the Wingmen. Sydal took the brunt of the punishment from Nemeth and Bononi, but caught Nemeth with a hurricanrana and countered a slam from Bononi with a DDT.

Martin got the tag and used his speed to frustrate Bononi and Nemeth, but Bononi pressed Martin out of the corner as he and Nemeth then delivered an assisted fireman’s carry slam. Sydal stunned Nemeth with a question mark kick and Martin came off the top with the Nosedive to get the pin in a fun match.

Skye Blue & Queen Aminata defeated Diamante & Emi Sakura (w/ Baliyan Akki) (4:01)

Diamante hit a hard german suplex on Blue to get the edge, followed by Sakura delivering a backbreaker out of a double underhook suplex. Blue caught Diamante with a kick and got the tag to Aminata who hit a flatliner for a near fall. Blue came off the top with a crossbody to the floor on her opponents. Back in the ring, Blue caught Sakura with a superkick, and drove her down to the mat to get the pin.

Danhausen defeated Peter Avalon (2:15)

Avalon did a pretty poor Rick Rude imitation. I think he looks more like “The Genius” Lanny Poffo anyway. Danhausen hit a German suplex and a pump kick, and then cursed Avalon. Danhausen locked in a submission to get the victory. This was short but fun, and the crowd was very into Danhausen. 

Matt Hardy defeated Angelico (6:32)

Hardy has been trying to go through his former associates one-by-one.

Angelico took Hardy down with an armdrag, and Hardy responded by sending him head first into all the turnbuckles. Literally all 12 turnbuckles. What a ruffian. Hardy pulled him up by the legs into a sit-out powerbomb for a near fall. Hardy went for a side effect, but Angelico responded with a Greco-Roman elbow to the face, followed by an enziguri and stomps.

Angelico wore down Hardy with an armbar. Hardy worked his way out of the hold and hit the Side Effect for a near fall. Hardy went for the Twist of Fate, but Angelico rolled through and into an Oklahoma roll for a near fall. Angelico got a small package and a La Magistral cradle for a pair of near falls. Hardy hit Angelico with the Twist of Fate out of nowhere to get the pinfall.

After the show ended, a simply fabulous promo piece building up Jon Moxley vs. Sammy Guevara aired. That four minutes alone (seen below) made this a must-see show.
