AEW Dark results: Brian Cage vs. Brandon Cutler FTW title match

It’s Tuesday and you know what that means. It’s time for AEW Dark.

Dark Order (John Silver and Alex Reynolds) (w/ -1) defeated Chaos Project (6:58)

Luther set up Reynolds for a back suplex off the ropes, but Reynolds elbowed him and hit a moonsault press. Tags were made on both sides and Silver was a house of fire, getting a near fall out of a German suplex and bridge. Luther hit a pump kick on Silver to set up their finish, but Reynolds broke it up and hit a tope suicidia on Luther. Back in the ring, Silver battered Serpentico with kicks. The Dark Destroyer from Reynolds and Silver ended Serpentico’s night.

Alex Marvez interviewed SCU where Daniels talked a lot about the stipulation where if they lose their next match, the team must split up.

SCU defeated Royce Isaacs and Jorel Nelson (8:42)

As it goes every week, Daniels lost the advantage for his team and got in trouble. Tonight, Daniels got caught with a hot shot from Isaacs and the heels took advantage. Also, it seems like the opposition for SCU has gotten worse every week while they seem to have more trouble defeating their opponents. And this is supposed to build interest in a SCU/Young Bucks match?

Daniels got the STO on Issacs and tags were made on both sides. As usual, Kazarian bailed SCU out. When he was trying to set up the Best Meltzer Ever, Daniels was hesitating and Issacs was able to break it up. Daniels came back with a uranage on Issacs and the Best Moonsault Ever to finish the match.

Kazarian is going to be 100% justified for turning on Daniels when they finally lose in the title match and he later beats him to a bloody pulp.

Penelope Ford (w/ Kip Sabian) defeated Miranda Alize (4:04)

Alize charged into a spinning kick from Ford for a near fall. Ford went for the springboard cutter, but Alize cut that off with a forearm for a near fall. Ford hit a juicebox and followed up with the fisherwoman’s suplex for the win. Ford was super smooth out there and needs to be featured in the ring more.

Gunn Club defeated Baron Black, Jake St. Patrick and Adam Priest (3:03)

Ricky Starks randomly appeared on commentary with no intro. Billy Gunn has looked better in 2021 than Bill Goldberg did. The 3:10 to Yuma on St. Patrick got Gunn Club the win.

Dante Martin defeated Jack Evans (5:50)

This felt like it would fit in better on Dark: Elevation. Martin had some fantastic deep armdrags and an armbar to gain control. Evans evaded a 450 splash, but Martin landed on his feet. He then walked into a spin kick from Evans, who took the advantage. A handspring elbow from Evans was followed up with a springboard kick for a near fall. Evans went for a second handspring elbow, but Martin caught him and dumped him onto the entrance stage.

Back in the ring, Martin hit a lariat, a dropick, a rana, and a double springboard moonsault press for a near fall. When the fight went to the floor, Evans tried to whip Martin into the barricade, but Martin just hurdled right over it. He then jumped back over the barricade to hit Evans with a destroyer. A 450 splash got Martin the win as they packed a lot into six minutes.

Post match, Angelico ran in to attack Dante leading to Darius Martin making the save for his brother, setting up a Top Flight vs. Hybrid2 match down the line.

FTW Champion Brian Cage (w/ Hook) defeated Brandon Cutler (4:17) to retain

This was the first defense of the FTW title since last October. Taz and Excalibur introduced this as the main event. Despite the dissension from Team Taz on Dynamite last week, Cage is still FTW Champion and a member of Team Taz, at least for now. Excalibur and Taz made a big deal about Ricky Starks out on commentary again which probably means these matches aren’t being shown in the order they were taped. Cutler has a big six-man tag with the Young Bucks against Laredo Kid, Penta El Zero M and Rey Fenix on Dynamite.

Cage hit a death valley driver about a minute in. He went for a power bomb, but Cutler rolled out of it and hit a spin kick that sent Cage to the floor. Cutler got a near fall off of a springboard crossbody. Starks and Taz somewhat belittled Cage on commentary as he lost the advantage. Cutler got a near fall off of a middle rope power bomb on Cage and then hit a springboard forearm that got a two count. Cutler came off the top rope, but got caught in the Drill Claw, giving Cage the win. There is some definite tension among the members of Team Taz.

Despite this being called the main event, the show continued without Starks on commentary.

Ashley Vox defeated Alex Gracia (2:26)

Vox won with a fishhook/armbar submission in a bit of an upset.

Joey Janela & Sonny Kiss defeated Vary Morales & Seth Gargis (4:27)

Now Anthony Ogogo has joined the commentary team.

Janella failed at multiple kip-up attempts to start and then superkicked Morales, blowing kisses into the camera after. Janela locked on a Romero special on Morales, and Kiss added a cravat until Gargis broke up the holds. Janela hit an inverted DDT on Gargis while Kiss hit a split-legged legdrop off the middle rope at the same time to get the win.

JD Drake (w/ Ryan Nemeth) defeated Fuego del Sol (4:25)

Not only does Drake have Nemeth in his corner now, he also has ditched the Dynamite theme for his music and instead came out to his own generic entrance music. Drake has a cool spot where he catches his opponent coming out of the ring on a dive, throws them into the ropes, and then his them with a forearm on the rebound. After a match that was mostly dominated by Drake, del Sol went for the standing sliced bread, but Drake escaped and hit a claymore-like boot for the win.

QT Marshall defeated Shawn Dean (5:31)

Marshall has a 6-0 record this year. Even when the matches are boring on Dark, the commentary is top notch. Excalibur and Taz made a ton of jokes about what it will look like when Marshall’s hair finally comes in, name dropping Shaun Simpson and Paul Roma, among others. Marshall went for a move off the middle rope but jumped into a dropkick instead. Dean hit a fantastic tope con hilo to follow up. Marshall came back with a dropkick. Dean jumped off the middle rope and made his own blunder, falling into a diamond cutter from Marshall for the win. Marshall does nothing for me.

The Bunny (w/ Butcher & The Blade) defeated Jazmin Allure (2:40)

A thrust kick and inverted DDT with an elbow finished off Allure to give Bunny the win in her first outing since last September. This was a clumsy match.

Dark Order (Colt Cabana, Evil Uno and Stu Grayson) (w/ -1) defeated Carlie Bravo, Brick Aldridge and Dean Alexander (5:06)

All of Bravo’s team wore Nightmare Factory training gear to the ring. Grayson and Uno combined to hit Fatality on Bravo for the win.

Nick Comoroto & Aaron Solow defeated Angel Fashion & D3 (2:18)

Solow pinned Fashion after a cross-armed pedigree. Comoroto was wasted here.

Cezar Bononi (w/ Peter Avalon) defeated John Skyler

Bononi won with an angle slam. Avalon renamed Bononi “Beautiful Bononi” during the match, but I don’t know if that will stick.

Final Thoughts:

This show fell off a cliff after the Cage-Cutler match.
