AEW Dark results: Alex Reynolds vs. Ryan Nemeth
It’s Tuesday. You know what that means.
SCU (Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian) defeated Jay Lyon & Midas Black (3:21)
Lyon and Black made their debut on Monday. Honestly, no one should be working both these shows in the same week.
Kazarian destroyed Black with some chops in the corner and you could hear Lyon shout “Hey! That’s my friend!” which made me chuckle. It was the usual SCU formula of Kazarian dominating and Daniels getting the tag and losing the advantage. Lyon hit a somersault senton on Daniels through a hoop held by Black. (Note they have a lion tamer/circus gimmick.) SCU came back and finished Lyons with the Best Meltzer Ever to keep their winning streak alive.
Matt Sydal defeated Luther (6:32)
Sydal and Luther taunted each other by pointing at their “third eyes.” Excalibur made a Third Eye Blind joke that I think went over Taz’s head. Sydal hit a sunset flip early on that had Luther’s shoulder’s down for three, but the ref only counted two because he’s a masochist who wanted a longer Luther match. Sydal got a unique cradle to counter a clothesline attempt for a two count and came back with kicks. An inverted fisherman’s suplex got a near fall.
The fight went to the floor where Luther got back the advantage. He slammed Sydal on the edge of the barricade and sent him headfirst into the barricade in front of Matt’s brother, Mike.
Back in the ring, Luther punished Sydal with a backbreaker. They exchanged kicks which Sydal won. Luther came back with a German suplex and a pump kick. He went for a power bomb, but Sydal escaped and hit the lightning spiral for the win The commentators made no mention of the Sydals/Limelight vs. Omega/Takeshita /Nakazawa match on next Monday’s Dark: Elevation.
Dark Order’s 5 & 10 defeated Kit Sackett & Hayden Backlund (3:41)
10 got the submission on Sackett with the full nelson. The full nelson making a comeback in 2021 wasn’t something I saw coming.
Dark Orderk’s Colt Cabana (w/ -1) defeated Jake Manning (4:14)
Cabana came to the ring with -1 and the rest of the gang. -1 recorded the match for Sammy Guevara’s VLOG. Manning has a boy scout gimmick and is apparently called the “Man Scout” which is a ridiculous gimmick. A Flying Apple and middle rope splash got Cabana a two count. Manning made a brief comeback, but Cabana won with the Billy Goat’s Curse submission.
Red Velvet & Big Swole (w/ KiLynn King) defeated Amber Nova & Queen Aminata (4:09)
Velvet and Swole continue to look good together as a team. Velvet got the win with her Chef’s Kiss kick on Nova in a nice preview of her match Wednesday against Jade Cargill. After the match, Cargill came out to the ramp and Velvet speared her through the ropes, triggering a brawl that was separated by the referees.
Aaron Solow defeated Fuego del Sol (3:10)
Solow won with the pedigree variation: a kind of reverse double underhook.
Gunn Club defeated Andrew Palace, Stone Rockwell & Mike Magnum (3:11)
Colton won with a double underhook into a neckbreaker Rockwell.
KiLynn King defeated Madi Wrenkowski
King countered a monkey flip by just overpowering Wrenkowski, walking her into the center of the ring and hitting the Kingdom Falls for the win. King’s improvement is notable and I believe we will see her matched up against Cargill very soon.
Matt Hardy (w/ Hardy Family Office) defeated Ken Broadway (3:49)
Hardy has a falls count anywhere match for the TNT title Wednesday with Darby Allin who watched from the rafters. Broadway “made it rain” by throwing money from the top rope right before going for a moonsault which missed. Hardy hit a pair of Twists of Fate and locked in his relatively new Leech submission hold.
Dark Order’s Evil Uno & Stu Grayson (w/ -1) defeated Vary Morales & Spencer Slade (1:26)
How many Dark/Elevation squashes do Uno and Grayson need? This feels like the fifth week in a row. The Fatality finished off Slade with Grayson getting the pin.
Britt Baker (w /Rebel) defeated Shawna Reed (2:13)
Dressed like a schoolgirl, Reed started out fast against Baker, but Baker cut her off with a clothesline. Baker went to do her “D M D” taunt, but got rolled up for a near fall. Baker came back with the swinging fisherman’s neckbreaker and a pair of superkicks. The Lockjaw got the win over the debuting Reed.
Brian Cage & Ricky Starks (w/ Powerhouse Hobbs & Hook) defeated Carlie Bravo & Dean Alexander (2:44)
Bravo got tossed to the floor and Hook and Hobbs destroyed him. Back in the ring, Cage tossed Bravo away with a fallaway slam. Alexander ran in and got power bombed for his troubles. Cage hit an outside-in superplex on Bravo. Starks was setting up all of Cage’s moves for him, tossing the poor dead jobbers over to him and telling him what to do. That was pretty funny. Cage hit the Drill Claw on Bravo to finish this off.
Nyla Rose (w/ Vickie Guerrero) defeated Leila Grey (1:47)
Guerrero did the “EXCUSE ME!” bit and chased Justin Roberts away from the ring to do Rose’s ring introduction. (“Applaud her! Get up!”) This was a complete squash as the spear and a beast bomb got Rose the win.
Varsity Blonds (Brian Pillman Jr. & Griff Garrison) defeated Prince Kai & Will Allday (3:49)
Garrison got the hot tag after Pillman got a bit of heat. Garrison hit a rolling elbow on Kai and Pillman scored the pin after an Air Pillman clothesline.
Lance Archer (w/ Jake Roberts) defeated Cole Karter (3:11)
Archer jumped his opponent in the middle of his own ring introduction and Roberts joined the commentary team. Carter went for a crossbody and bounced off of Archer. Someone in the sparse crowd got an “Archer’s gonna kill you!” chant going. Archer hit a short-arm clothesline in a tribute to Roberts. Karter actually escaped both Darkness Falls and a chokeslam attempt, but ran into a forearm and got chokeslammed anyway. A spinning uranage finished off Karter.
Dark Order’s Alex Reynolds (w/ 10 and -1) defeated Ryan Nemeth (w/ JD Drake) (4:14)
John Silver joined the commentary team. Nemeth attacked before the bell to get the advantage. This match is apparently sponsored by State Farm. 12,000 were watching the match at the time, so I hope they didn’t pay very much. Reynolds came back and got a Texas cloverleaf on Nemeth who got a rope break. Nemeth came back with a dropkick and his handstand hammerlock. Reynolds escaped and hit a pair of back elbows and then a nice looking dropkick of his own. A power bomb and a legdrop got Reynolds two. Nemeth came back with a clothesline and went for his neckbreaker, but Reynolds escaped and finished Nemeth with a helicopter uranage.
Final Thoughts:
This week’s Dark was just a lot of squash matches with nothing worth going out of your way to see.
