AEW Dark Elevation results: Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Matt Sydal

It’s Monday and you know what that means: a seven-match AEW Dark: Elevation taped last Wednesday at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ.

This was the 50th episode of the show and featured Excalibur, Mark Henry and Paul Wight on the call.

Dante Martin defeated Kevin Matthews

This was speed vs. strength. Matthews had an early lead by grounding Martin, but Martin used his speed and agility to take control. Martin improved his record to 41-19 with the Nosedive.

This was an important win and the perfect match to gain experience ahead of his clash this week with Powerhouse Hobbs.

Thunder Rosa defeated Riley Shepard

This was the AEW debut for Shepard and was a squash. Rosa hit the fire thunder driver to improve her record to 49-7. After the match, Rosa called out Mercedes Martinez and said she was ready ahead of their match this week.

Zack Clayton defeated Serpentico (w/ Luther)

Clayton started strong with a powerful German suplex. Throughout the match, Luther helped Serpentico and even interacted with Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino from Jersey Shore. Clayton used a fisherman’s buster to get a major upset and his first AEW win.

Powerhouse Hobbs (w/ Ricky Starks) defeated Matt Sydal

In a similar fashion to Martin’s match, this was a clash of speed vs. strength. In this case, Hobbs’ strength was able to overwhelm Sydal. He worked over Sydal’s torso, grounding him with several chops and punches. Hobbs also worked Sydal’s neck with a nerve hold. Starks was able to distract Sydal long enough for Hobbs (41-17) to pick Sydal up and submit him with the torture rack.

While the match was good, the big highlight of the show for me was Hobbs talking about his track on the upcoming AEW CD celebrating Black wrestlers.

Men of the Year (w/ Dan Lambert) defeated Jaden Valo and Steve Pena

This was the AEW debut for Pena. As expected, MOTY dominated but Pena got a very interesting hot tag and was able to get a quick advantage for his team. That didn’t last long as Ethan Page hit Ego’s Edge on Valo to get the win.

2point0, Daniel Garcia and The Acclaimed defeated Dark Order’s Alan “5” Angels, Alex Reynolds, Evil Uno, John Silver and Stu Grayson

Once again, Max Caster killed it in his pre-match rap, mentioning Joe Rogan, Black History Month and that all the members in the Dark Order are bald, even Reynolds who wears a wig according to Caster.

This match was everyone hitting big moves and then tagging the next person. Angels hit an impressive moonsault on 2point0. Caster tried to hit Angels with his boombox, but Uno prevented it. Anthony Bowens used a DDT on Angels to pick up the win.

Ruby Soho and TayJay defeated Emi Sakura, Nyla Rose and The Bunny (w/ Vickie Guerrero)

The Bunny used her jacket to choke Anna Jay as soon as the match began. Guerrero interfered in favor of the heels trio and even slapped Soho at one point. Sakura proceeded to chop Soho on the tune of “We Will Rock You” of Queen fame. Tay Conti hit a moonsault that surprised everybody and Rose was barely able to catch her. Soho hit No Future on Bunny to get the win.
