AEW Dark Elevation results: Omega, Takeshita & Nakazawa trios match
It’s Monday and you know what that means: time for AEW Dark: Elevation.
Hangman Page defeated Spencer Slade (1:21)
Slade was born deaf and wears amateur headgear and hearing aids. Page killed him with a fallaway slam and lariats in the corners. A pop-up into a powerbomb and cradle got Page the win.
Britt Baker (w/ Rebel) defeated Tesha Price (5:28)
This was a bit of a struggle early on as it didn’t seem like they were on the same page. Baker hit a DDT followed by an air raid crash. From there, Baker went right into the Lockjaw for the submission.
Jurassic Express defeated Midas Black and Jay Lyon (1:49)
This was a comedy squash. Lyon and Black are the team that does the circus lion/liontamer gimmick, so this match with Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus seemed like a natural. Lyon had some kind of steak (allegedly) hanging out of his mouth. Jungle Boy pinned Lyons and Black in a pile after a pair of fireman’s carry slams.
The Hybrid2 defeated Vary Morales & Andre Montoya (4:51)
Angelico’s unique submission style continues to impress. He dominated Morales and twisted him into a pretzel on the mat. Evans hit an insane twisting body press on Morales on the floor and Angelico got the submission on Montoya with the Navarro death roll.
Paul Wight interviews The Acclaimed
This was pretty much an in-character interview and another star-making performance for The Acclaimed. They joked they got signed in 2020 which was the worst year ever. The interview shifted to a more sincere tone. Anthony Bowens is an openly gay wrestler who has been wrestling for eight years, but feels like this is an incredible opportunity. He had taken advantage of it despite a lot of times living in fear over whether he would be accepted or not. Of course, he has been in AEW.
Bowens is also recovering quite well from his torn meniscus. He actually stole the show in this interview and re-established himself as an equal to Max Caster which was great because for the last month, Caster has been stealing the show as a singles wrestler. Bowens also revealed that Tony Khan put the two of them together as a tag team.
Brian Cage and Ricky Starks defeated Mike Magnum and Stone Rockwell (3:16)
Cage — who looks like Wolverine ate the Hulk — did a leapfrog into a dropdown into a dropkick sequence. Once again, there was miscommunication between Starks and Cage. They overcome it and Cage helped Starks get Rockwell up for the rochambeaux and win. I don’t know how much more they need to increase tension between Cage and Starks before they are going to get where they want to go.
Abadon defeated Skye Blue (2:52)
Abandon was spitting up blood on her way to the ring which in Florida might mean she has COVID. The crowd chanted “Abadon is gonna kill you” so they were hip to the script. She hit a spinning uranage into a backbreaker. Blue actually hit a handspring elbow, but didn’t know how to follow up and Abadon destroyed her. Blue mounted a bit of a comeback and got crotched in the ropes. Abadon finished her with the Cemetery Drive, called the Cemetery Driver by Schiavone.
Orange Cassidy defeated Prince Kai (:06)
Kai handed the referee a card that was given to Justin Roberts that had an over the top ring introduction. Kai then basked in the glory of his ring for too long and walked right into the Beach Break for the quick (but not record setting) win.
Private Party (w/ Matt Hardy) defeated Alex Reynolds and Colt Cabana (w/ -1 and the rest of Dark Order) (8:23)
-1 is recording more footage for Sammy Guevara’s VLOG. Private Party got the jump on Reynolds from behind to start the match. Reynolds came back with a dropkick to send Isiah Kassidy to the floor. On the floor, Kassidy got into it with the rest of the Dark Order and referee Mark Posey sent them to the back, but Matt Hardy remained at ringside.
Back in the ring, Reynolds hit Marq Quen with a clothesline to the floor and followed up with a tope suicida. On the floor, Hardy threw Reynolds into the barricade and Kassidy hit Reynolds with a moonsault on the floor. Back in the ring, Kassidy got a near fall after a vertical suplex. Reynolds landed a vicious knee on Kassidy and tagged in Cabana who dominated Quen.
A big splash on Quen got Cabana a two count, but he came back with a 450 splash on Cabana for a near fall. Cabana and Reynolds combined for a variation of the Reynolds/Silver finisher on Quen, but he wasn’t the legal man. Kassidy was legal and he rolled up a confused Cabana for the win.
Thunder Rosa defeated Shawna Reed (4:19)
Rosa won the fire thunder driver or package piledriver if you’re Schiavone.
Best Friends (w/ Orange Cassidy) defeated Hayden Backlund and Kit Sackett (1:57)
Trent tested his torn pectoral muscle by throwing a stiff lariat on Backlund and followed up with a vicious Saito suplex. Best Friends combined with Soul Food on Sackett and then finished off Backlund with a package piledriver from Taylor into another piedriver from Trent. Post match, you’ve got to give the people what they want: a group hug with the Best Friends.
Leyla Hirsch and Ryo Mizunami defeated Nyla Rose and Madi Wrenkowski (w/ Vicki Guerrero) (4:53)
As Rose was about to get the pin on Mizunami, Wrenkowski got the blind tag and the ref broke up Rose’s pin. Wrenkowski did not get the win and wound up on the wrong end of a slugfest with Mizunami, getting chopped all the way back into the corner. A powerslam from Mizunami and an assisted senton from Hirsch got a near fall that Rose broke up. Rose and Wrenkowski double suplexed Hirsch and Wrenkowski hit a facebuster. However, Hirsch got Wrenkowski with the cross armbreaker for the quick tap out.
Austin Gunn (w/Colten Gunn) defeated Aaron Solow (w/ QT Marshall and Nick Comoroto) (4:16)
The Nightmare Family vs. Factory explodes! Marshall used the stairs on the entrance ramp to sit and observe. There’s nothing like seeing Comoroto standing at ringside after watching him improve match after match the first three months of the year.
Comoroto distracted Austin from the floor and Solow hit him with an enziguri for a near fall. Austin countered Solow’s piledriver attempt into the quick draw for the win.
Scorpio Sky and Ethan Page defeated Dean Alexander and Carlie Bravo
Page hit Bravo with his running tackle on the floor to take him out and Sky locked in a heel hook on Alexander to get the win. After the match, Page hit the Ego’s Edge on Bravo for kicks. This is their third win as a team.
— Dasha interviewed Austin Gunn but was interrupted by both Billy Gunn and QT Marshall. Somehow, this became an angle between a 57-year-old and 35-year-old…on Elevation…the show for the young talent to get elevated. Marshall laid out Gunn.
AEW World Champion Kenny Omega, Konosuke Takeshita and MT Nakazawa defeated Matt & Mike Sydal and Danny Limelight (13:05)
This match started out as kind of a mess as the storyline was that Omega and Nakazawa weren’t getting along with Takeshita and it messed with the chemistry of the team.
Matt Sydal ended up in trouble with Omega. Omega went for a suplex, but Matt countered with a knee to the head. Limelight and Takeshita each got tags and had a great exchange. Limelight hit a top rope blockbuster for a near fall. Takeshita countered with a sit-out powerbomb for a near fall. A kitaro crusher from Omega and a lariat from Takeshita on Limelight only got two. Omega went for a snapdragon, but Limelight got out of it and fought his way out of the One Winged Angel.
Matt came in with a meteora off the top and Limelight flew in with a tornado DDT for a near fall on Omega. Mike got a tag and was immediately snapdragoned out of his boots. Takeshita got the tag and hit a running boot in the corner and a brainbuster again for another two. Mike came back with a roll up and a kick, but when he went to the top, Nakazawa crotched him.
Takeshita hit a juice box and then finished off Mike with a German suplex and bridge for the three. What started out as a mess turned into a very good match.
Final Thoughts:
The six-man is worth seeking out even though it started out rough while the rest of the show was the usual array of predictable squashes.
