AEW Dark Elevation results: Lucha Bros vs. TH2, Shida vs. Hogan

It’s Monday and you know what that means: an eleven-match AEW Dark: Elevation featuring the usual debuts and returns. These matches were taped last Wednesday in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

2.0 defeated Duke Davis & Ganon Jones

This match was the return of Davis and Jones as a tag team. The last time they wrestled together was back on episode eight of Elevation. Jones, in particular, was very impressive and has a lot of potential. This served to build 2.0’s record ahead of their Texas tornado match on Wednesday against Darby Allin and Sting. They dominated most of the match and won with a top rope guillotine.

Diamante defeated Julia Hart (w/ Varsity Blonds)

Hart and the Blonds got a good pop when they came out to the ring. There wasn’t much to say about this match as the crowd was dead for a good portion of it. Hart needs to work on her striking. Diamante (26-15 overall) won by punching Hart in the face with a chain while the ref was distracted. After the match, she kept attacking Hart, but Big Swole made the save — another step in their ongoing rivalry.

Joey Janela defeated Alan “5” Angels

This was Janela’s first match on Elevation working as a heel since he betrayed Kiss two weeks ago. Angels was over with the crowd and they popped big for all his big spots. (His Spanish fly was really good looking.) Janela (6-3 this year) won with a roll-up while holding the tights.

Hikaru Shida defeated Kiera Hogan

This match served as they AEW debut of former Impact Knockouts Tag Team Champion Hogan. Once again, Shida got a good reception from the fans. The motivated Hogan showed a lot of fire. She and Shida had a great exchange of punches and chops. Shida (38-4) won after hitting the Falcon Arrow.

Lance Archer (w/ Jake Roberts) defeated Reggie Collins

The now-former IWGP U.S. Champion came out to the ring while destroying Collins to a great pop. Archer won in dominant fashion with the Blackout. The Murderhawk’s overall record in 2021 is 20-4 and he hasn’t lost in AEW since Double or Nothing.

Thunder Rosa defeated Ray Lyn

This was Lyn’s AEW return as her last outing was an Elevation loss to Tay Conti on episode two. She worked as a heel which made sense considering how over Rosa was with the crowd. Lyn had a few moments to show her offense, but Rosa controlled things for the most part. Rosa (23-3) won with the Thunder Driver and needs to challenge Britt Baker for the title sooner or later.

PAC defeated Anthony Bowens

Bowens, sans Max Caster following his recent controversial rap, debuted a new entrance theme. Tony Schiavone did mention that Bowens was part of The Acclaimed. PAC got one of the best pops of the night and even had the crowd chanting “bastard.”

The match immediately began with a great forearm exchange. PAC later teased a Black Arrow, but when he was about to hit it, he changed his mind and went for the Brutalizer to annoy the crowd which got great heat. With the win, PAC is now 8-1-1 in 2021.

Brian Cage defeated Joey Keys

This was Keys’ second AEW match. Cage dominated most of the match, but the best part was on commentary when Eddie Kingston joined Paul Wight and Schiavone. Cage (14-3) won with the Drill Claw.

Sammy Guevara defeated Serpentico (w/ Luther)

Serpentico is one of the funniest over the top sellers the promotion has. Chaos Project remains one of the most bizarre, yet fascinating acts on both Dark and Elevation. During the match, Luther intervened on Serpentico’s behalf and deserves a special mention for his shouting. Guevara (4-1) won with the GTH.

After the match and ahead of their match Wednesday, Shawn Spears attacked Guevara. Tully Blanchard brought Spears’ chair and Spears gave Guevara the C4 on it. The long feud between Inner Circle and The Pinnacle continues.

Jade Cargill (w/ “Smart” Mark Sterling) defeated Katie Arquette

This was the AEW debut for Arquette. The only negative was when Cargill and Arquette had a miscommunication on a move at the beginning of the match. Cargill won in dominant fashion with Jaded to remain undefeated at 10-0. 

Lucha Bros (w/ Alex Abrahantes & PAC) defeated TH2

The last time these two teams faced each other was for a show by indie lucha libre promotion The Crash which the Lucha Bros won.

Both teams had awesome in-ring chemistry together and there was a lot of cool spots. This was a TV level match. Angelico used the Delfin clutch and Kingston made reference to Super Delfin. If you are a wrestling nerd like me, you popped with some of the references Kingston made.

Angelico had the sickest sell for a cutter you’ll ever see, but the Lucha Bros still won with a double stomp/Fear Factor combo to continue their winning streak.

Final Thoughts:

Kingston was one of the highlights of the show on commentary and needs to be a regular in the booth as he has natural chemistry with Wight and Schiavone.  

Hogan vs. Shida, Archer vs. Collins and the main event were the best matches of the show and worth watching. Overall, it was a solid episode of Elevation as most of the matches had something to offer.
