AEW Dark Elevation results: Kiss vs. Janela, Shida vs. Slamovich

It’s Monday and you know what that means: a nine-match AEW Dark: Elevation, taped last Wednesday in Newark, New Jersey at the Prudential Center.

Thunder Rosa defeated Kaia McKenna

This was McKenna’s AEW debut. Rosa (27-2) dominated, winning a short match with the fire thunder driver.

Gunn Club defeated Anthony Bennett, Leon St. Giovanni & Ray Jaz

This was the AEW debuts for Bennett, St. Giovanni (ROH’s LSG) and Jaz. Paul Wight was so disgusted for what the Gunn Club did to him that he left the commentary booth for this match. Gunn Club won easily after landing the Colt 45. They remain the most successful trio in AEW with a record of 14-0.

Dark Order’s Alan “5” Angels & 10 (w/ Alex Reynolds & John Silver) defeated Dark Order’s Colt Cabana & Evil Uno

The tension between the members of the Dark Order keeps escalating and this week, we got another match between them. Both teams sold the tension well during the match with Uno even trying to get 10 to side with him but failing.

Uno started off as a babyface, but slowly worked a more heel style during portions of the match. Cabana was more of a peacemaker until he gave up and assisted him. Uno took Angels’ mask off during the match which led to Angels hulking up and winning with a roll-up on Uno.

After the match, Angels offered his hand to Uno but he rejected it and left the ring while Cabana and the rest of the Dark Order stood and watched.

Orange Cassidy (w/ Chuck Taylor & Kris Statlander) defeated Mike Verna

This was Verna’s second match in AEW. This was a short one that Cassidy (16-1-1) won with the Orange Punch.

Private Party (w/ Matt Hardy) defeated Jorge Santi & Teddy Goodz

This match was the tag team debut of Santi and Goodz. Private Party used some great heel tactics during the match and outsmarted their opponents whenever possible. Private Party (10-2) won after hitting Gin & Juice, jumping a few spots in the rankings.

Hikaru Shida defeated Masha Slamovich

This was Slamovich’s second match in AEW and her debut on Elevation. This was one of the more competitive matches on the show as Slamovich was able to showcase more of her offense than in her previous outing. Slamovich had a near fall on Shida with a dragon suplex. In the end, Shida (41-4) won with the Katana.

Sonny Kiss defeated Joey Janela (w/ Kayla Rossi)

The tension between Kiss and Janela escalated to the point that the only way to settle this feud was with this match. Kiss was more aggressive than in previous outings and helped sell the idea this was a grudge match. This was one of the best matches from Kiss since joining the promotion

Rossi gave Kiss a vicious spear while Janela was busted open early on. He had one of the craziest spots of the night with a senton splash to the apron, but Kiss was able to avoid it at the last second. Janela also had a near fall with a spanish fly and went for two consecutive piledrivers, but it was not enough. Kiss won with a roll-up to improve his record to 9-10. After the match, Rossi and Janela attacked Kiss.

Ortiz & Santana defeated Avery Good & JT Dunn

This was the tag team debut of for Good and Dunn, two well-traveled indie names. Ortiz and Santana dominated in what was basically a squash, using a combination of a superkick and a power bomb to get the win.

Dustin Rhodes defeated QT Marshall (w/ The Factory)

Former tag team partners The Natural Nightmares faced each other once more. The Factory intervened in Marshall’s favor throughout the match. Marshall had a great looking sit-down power bomb and Rhodes countered a diamond cutter with a Cross Rhodes variant for a near fall. Rhodes (9-2) hit the Final Reckoning to pick up the win.

Final Thoughts:

This was a fun show as the commentary trio of Wight, Tony Schiavone and Eddie Kingston remains entertaining to listen to during matches, especially every time they mentioned Adam Cole. The match of the night was Janela vs. Kiss in a great grudge match. Most likely, there’s more to come between both considering the aftermath.
