AEW Dark Elevation results: Eddie Kingston & Penta El Zero M vs. TH2

It’s Monday and you know what that means: time for a thirteen-match AEW Dark: Elevation card with some debuts and returns. 

Gunn Club (Billy and Colten) defeated Ryan Nemeth & JD Drake (w/ The Wingmen)

Colten showed potential with some babyface fire during the match. The Wingmen remain one of the most funny and fascinating factions in this promotion for some weird reason. Gunn Club won with the famouser from the one and only Billy Gunn to end this quick, three minute match. Fun fact: Colten remains undefeated in AEW so far.

Penelope Ford defeated Valentina Rossi

This was another short match. Just when Rossi was starting to gain momentum in her favor, Ford was able to cut it short and use a gutbuster to win this match running her record this year to 7-1.

Brian Cage (w/ Powerhouse Hobbs & Hook) defeated Serpentico (w/ Luther)

This was very entertaining. Cage took advantage of the fact that he is bigger than Serpentico and dominated most of the match. Luther intervened on a few occasions, but it didn’t affect things for the most part. One of the funniest spots of the show was Serpentico following Luther’s orders and using his own head as a weapon following Chaos Project’s gimmick of Luther using Serpentico as a weapon on matches.

Cage won with the Drill Claw, upping his record to 23-2. After the match, Hobbs and Hook fist bumped Cage, but the tension between the members of Team Taz could be felt.

Karl Anderson (w/ The Young Bucks & Doc Gallows) defeated Wheeler Yuta

This match was the AEW debut for Yuta — best known for his work on Chikara, NJPW, ROH and the indies. This match features the standard heel shenanigans from The Elite that helped Anderson take control. Yuta showed great babyface fire at different parts during the match and won the crowd over easily because of it. Anderson won this with a top rope Stun Gun.

Brock Anderson, Lee Johnson & Dustin Rhodes (w/ Arn Anderson) defeated Liam Grey, Adrian Alanis & Justin Corino

Anderson is a carbon copy of his father from his look to the way he wrestles. He is still green on a few aspects of wrestling, but with more matches on Dark and Elevation, he should improve quickly. The highlight of this match, though, was Johnson. The Nightmare Family won with a combination of a thrust kick into a bulldog.

The Acclaimed defeated Matt Justice & PB Smooth

The Acclaimed were super over, especially with Max Caster’s rap about Justice’s gimmick being just a white dude. Caster and Anthony Bowens had the crowd in the palm of their hands from start to finish. This match had a lot of great tag team work from Caster and Bowens with the exception of a neckbreaker combo that looked awkward. The Acclaimed won with Caster’s Mic Drop and are now 13-3 this year.

Riho defeated KiLynn King

This was Riho’s return to Elevation since episode one when she faced Maki Itoh. The crowd was really behind her during this match. This was the first time King worked as a heel for AEW. One of the best spots was King catching Riho in the middle of the air and doing a quick Samoan drop. She then went for a frog splash but missed big time which allowed Riho to use Samato (running double knee strike) to win.

This was awesome and my favorite match of the night.

Varsity Blonds (w/ Julia Hart) defeated Jake Logan & Aaron Rourke

The Blonds won with a flying forearm in a very quick match.

Thunder Rosa defeated Katalina Perez

Rosa and Perez had a great exchange at the beginning, but this match was too short. Rosa won with a Peruvian calavera choke — a submission Rosa and AEW have done a good job as building as a strong submission finisher since it was introduced.

The Blade (w/ The Bunny) defeated Chuck Taylor

Bunny interfered and yelled on several occasions in The Blade’s favor. This is not the first time Chuckie T and Blade have faced one another as the last time was in 2014 with Blade picking up the win. Blade and Bunny outsmarted Taylor with a dirty pin to pick up the win. After the match, TH2 appeared to attack Taylor, but Orange Cassidy made the save. The feud between HFO and Best Friends is just starting.

Private Party & Matt Hardy defeated Dark Order’s Alan “5” Angels, Alex Reynolds & Colt Cabana

Private Party paid tribute to the Hardy Boyz with their new gear so no one will call them T-Mobile employees ever again. Dark Order with -1 got the biggest pop of the show. HFO and Dark Order have been feuding on Dark and Elevation for quite some time with HFO going on top for the most part.

Both factions have worked each other in a lot of matches and the chemistry is there. Private Party picked up the win with Gin and Juice after Matt Hardy stopped Angels before he could do anything from the top rope. This is probably the end of the feud between HFO and Dark Order.

Hikaru Shida defeated Reka Tehaka

This was one of Tehaka’s better showings in AEW. She worked with a lot more intensity which worked really well with Shida having the crowd on her side. Shida won after hitting the Katana and remains in the fifth spot in the Women’s title rankings.

Penta El Zero Miedo & Eddie Kingston (w/ Alex Abrahantes) defeated TH2

This crowd was so great here. Penta had one of the biggest pops of the show, probably only behind Orange Cassidy. One of the coolest spots of both the match and show was Penta using a monkey flip to throw Angelico into Evans who was in the corner. Penta and Kingston won after hitting the half & half suplex into the Fear Factor on Evans. They go into their match against The Young Bucks this Wednesday with a 3-0 record.

Final Thoughts:

The crowd was hot which helped this episode of Elevation big time — even hotter than the Elevation taped during Double or Nothing weekend. Every match benefited as a result. Riho vs. King was my favorite match of the show with HFO vs. Dark Order, Brian Cage vs. Serpentico and the main event as other suggestions.
