Sir Elton John played us into this week’s Collision from St. Louis, MO. Tony Schiavone, Kevin Kelly, & Nigel McGuinness were on the call.

Jon Moxley defeated Shane Taylor (w/Lee Moriarty) by referee stoppage

This was a slugfest and a great way to open the show.

As Moxley made his entrance, we got highlights of Moxley’s bloody war against Shingo Takagi at New Japan’s Battle In The Valley show last weekend. The two traded heavy strikes to start, with Taylor rocking Moxley with an elbow. Taylor peppered Moxley with chops before clotheslining him in the corner. Moxley avoided a corner charge but had a piledriver attempt reversed by the bottom-heavy Taylor.

Taylor sent Moxley to the floor, where Moxley sent Taylor into the stairs. Moxley sent Taylor into the ring, but Moriarty booted Moxley in the face as the referee was distracted. Taylor scored a nearfall with a sidewalk slam. Moxley went for a back suplex, but Taylor shifted his weight to land on him. Taylor went to the second rope, but Moxley rolled out of the way of a splash.

Moxley caught Taylor with a cutter before landing the ten punches in the corner. Taylor caught Moxley with a suplex as McGuinness mocked the counting ability of the St. Louis crowd. Moxley caught Taylor with a back suplex, but Taylor got out of the Paradigm Shift to hit a short-range lariat. Taylor hit a headbutt and a knee before landing a Tree Slam, but Moxley caught Taylor in a Triangle Choke as he crawled to the cover.

Taylor powered Moxley up to get out of the choke, but Moxley hit the hammer-and-anvil elbows. Moxley hit two Regal Knees for a nearfall before both men traded more strikes. Moxley ducked a strike to lock on a sleeper. He then took Taylor to the mat and transitioned into a Bully Choke to score the win via referee stoppage.

After the match, Moxley took the microphone and noted that he was pissed off. He isn’t taking any crap from anyone anymore. He said that anyone who wanted to get in his face, call themselves a teammate, or call themselves a colleague of his, had better keep up. The announcers made a note of Moxley saying “teammate.”

We got a video package of the Samoa Joe vs. Hook match from Dynamite.

Adam Copeland made his way to the ring for his Cope Open Challenge. We got highlights of the first two matches of the Cope Open, with Copeland establishing the Grindhouse submission as a finishing move.

Adam Copeland defeated Dante Martin

The best match of the Cope Open so far. Martin selling his equilibrium throughout the match was a great set-up to the finish. Copeland promoting himself as the hard worker opposed to Christian Cage is a nice, grounded way to keep the people behind him as he works toward another title match.

The two men shook hands to start before locking up. Martin kept taking down Copeland with armdrags, then ducked a crossbody from Copeland to hit a senton for a nearfall. Kelly said that he called a match between Copeland and the Blue Meanie in St. Louis that happened before Martin was born. Copeland sent Martin to the floor, with Martin hitting his head off the turnbuckle, as we went to commercial.

Copeland had Martin grounded as we came back to full screen. Martin popped Copeland with an enzuigiri, then avoided a Copeland charge into the ropes with a kick. Copeland cut off a Martin springboard but had a powerbomb attempt cut off. Martin hit a hurricanrana off the apron, then hit a dive onto Copeland. Martin came back into the ring with a high crossbody for a nearfall. Copeland reversed the half-and-half slam with an Impaler DDT.

Copeland set up the spear, but Martin vaulted out of the way and hit the Nose Dive. Copeland got his foot on the ropes, so Martin went to the top rope. Copeland cut him off and went to the top rope, but Martin took him down with a sunset flip powerbomb for a nearfall. Martin went for a springboard, but Copeland speared him out of the air. Martin hesitated while on the top rope, with the announcers noting it was due to his equilibrium being off all match. Copeland locked on the Grindhouse to get the win.

After the match, Tony Schiavone got in the ring and congratulated Copeland on the fight. Copeland noted that the only people who were stepping up to the Cope Open were young, hungry talents. Copeland called himself a five-course meal before joking that he wasn’t sure what that meant. Copeland said that he would do the work that Christian Cage said he would do when he first signed. Copeland said that he would keep working until he brought the TNT Title back to TNT.

Bryan Danielson & Claudio Castagnoli were backstage with Lexy Nair, who asked them about how they felt about being in the ring after Eddie Kingston beat them both in the Continental Classic. Danielson called it the worst moment of his career, and the best of Kingston’s. Danielson said Kingston had a good run, but he didn’t have what it took to be great consistently. Castagnoli was sick of hearing about Kingston and said that Ortiz was going to be a casualty.

After a commercial, Top Flight & Action Andretti were backstage with Lexy Nair. Private Party quickly interrupted, with Kassidy gifting Nair a pink durag. Marq Quen noted that he lost his balance, which is why he grabbed the rope to beat them on Dynamite. Darius Martin challenged Private Party to a rematch, which was accepted.

Thunder Rosa defeated Queen Aminata

There were some miscommunications early, but overall, this was a good showing for both women.

The announcers noted that this was Rosa’s first singles match since August 2022. The two traded holds before Rosa hit a headscissors into a roll-up for a nearfall. Rosa went for a series of pins before Aminata hit a backbreaker. The announcers noted that it was Rosa’s back that kept her out of action for over a year. Aminata went after the back before Rosa hit a headscissors that sent Aminata to the floor. Rosa hit a baseball slide as we went to a commercial.

They traded forearms as we came back from the break. Aminata laid in a heavy kick to the back before hitting a hip attack in the corner. Rose moved out of the way of a facewash kick and hit a big clothesline. Rosa hit a Meteora in the corner before hitting the dropkick in the ropes. Rosa hit a Northern Lights Suplex for a nearfall.

Rosa laid in some “back leg front kicks” as called by Schiavone. Aminata caught Rosa with a loud headbutt before landing an Air Raid Crash for a nearfall. Aminata hit a big boot, but Rosa came back with a shotgun dropkick. Rosa hit the Tijuana Bomb to get the win.

Eddie Kingston & Ortiz were backstage with Lexy Nair. Ortiz noted that sometimes family fights, but Kingston and Ortiz were on good terms again. Kingston was annoyed that he had to do a promo before his match and left to get ready.

The new ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions Bullet Club Gold made their way to the ring. Colten Gunn ripped off the DX intro, then took credit when Jay White said he liked it. White was happy to be back on Collision but felt like something was missing. Austin Gunn went under the ring and pulled out a cardboard cutout of Juice Robinson to cheers. They went to wrap things up when The Acclaimed came out.

Billy Gunn congratulated them on their title win but noted that they could do so much more. Max Caster reiterated their offer to make a super group, as they would be unstoppable together. Caster said that the people wanted to see everyone in the group with more gold. The people chanted Bang Bang Scissor Gang as Bowens asked everyone to throw up their scissors and their guns. The Acclaimed offered up scissors, and the Bullet Club accepted as the crowd went wild.

[This was surprising, as I was expecting the offer to be declined and for these two teams to fight for their titles. But the people seem to be into it, so AEW is gonna run with it.]

We got a video from Timeless Toni Storm, Mariah May, & Luther from after Wednesday’s Dynamite. Storm admitted that she knew Deonna Purrazzo and was jealous of her technical ability back in the day. Storm said that she would meet her, beat her, and then eat her.

Daniel Garcia (w/ FTR) defeated Buddy Matthews (w/ The House of Black)

A good TV win for Garcia. I wrote that this feud was getting a bit long in the tooth, and then they announced what I presume will be the blowoff match for next week.

Matt Menard was on commentary, and FTR came out to watch Garcia’s back. Matthews repeatedly flattened Garcia with shoulder blocks, sending Garcia to the floor. After conferring with FTR, Garcia got back in the ring and took Matthews down with a shoulder block of his own. The six men all stared each other down from the opposite aprons, and Garcia teased his dance as we went to the commercial.

Back from the commercial, the two men were fighting on the apron. They showed Matthews hitting a hanging DDT, and then a jumping knee on the floor during the commercial. Matthews hit a rising knee to Garcia on the apron, but Garcia came back with a piledriver on the apron.

Both men beat the ten count into the ring before trading strikes in the ring. Garcia fired up, stomping on Matthews before going after the knee. Garcia locked on a figure four on the ringpost before taking Matthews into the ring and hitting a chop block. Garcia locked on the Dragon Tamer, but leaned back too far, allowing Matthews to slam his head off the mat.

Matthews hit a pair of rising knees before landing a Jackhammer for a nearfall. Garcia ducked a curb stomp and mocked Matthews with his dance. Matthews hit another knee, but Garcia reversed a powerbomb into a jackknife cover to score the win. The six men got into a massive brawl after the bell, with referees, security, and wrestlers coming out to break them up.

After a commercial, FTR & Daniel Garcia were backstage when Lexy Nair came up. Harwood challenged the House of Black to finish this next week. He challenged the House of Black to a six-man elimination tag match inside a steel cage.

Roderick Strong defeated Matt Sydal

A nice piece of business, as Strong makes his way to Revolution and his International Title match.

The commentators noted that these two men came up together in Ring of Honor as part of Generation Next. After some early grappling, Sydal got the advantage with a pair of headscissors and a kick that sent Strong to the floor. Sydal hit a plancha as we went to a commercial. As soon as the commercial ended, Strong caught a jumping Sydal with a backbreaker.

Sydal hit another headscissors and a hurricanrana before hitting jumping kicks to take Strong down. Sydal hit a Meteora off the top for a nearfall. Sydal caught Strong with a rollup for a nearfall before hitting an Air Raid Crash for another nearfall. Strong caught Sydal with a jumping knee before hitting the End of Heartache for the win.

Bryan Danielson & Claudio Castagnoli defeated Eddie Kingston & Ortiz

A solid main event, and a sign that Kingston isn’t done with the Blackpool Combat Club just yet.

After Kingston and Danielson posed for cheers, they locked up to start. As Tony Schiavone was hyping Revolution and All In: London ticket sales, he noted that both shows were already in the Top 5 of ticket sales in company history. Kingston sat Danielson on the mat before laying in chops and kicks. Ortiz tagged in but quickly got overwhelmed by Castagnoli. The BCC isolated Ortiz as we went to commercial.

After the commercial, Ortiz tried to fight his way to Kingston, but Castagnoli caught him in the Giant Swing. Danielson laid in the chest kicks as Tony Schiavone announced that AEW would be bringing back the rankings per Tony Khan on X. Ortiz made his way to the corner and tagged in Kingston. Kingston dropped the straps and traded chops and boots with Castagnoli.

Kingston drove Castagnoli into the corner and laid in the machine gun chops. Castagnoli took Kingston’s arm and landed a short-arm lariat. Castagnoli hit a chokeslam before tagging in Danielson, who hit a diving headbutt for a nearfall. Castagnoli took Ortiz off the apron, throwing him into a security guard before hopping in the ring.

Kingston tried to fight both men off, but Danielson caught him with a roll-up for a nearfall. Kingston kicked out and hit Danielson with a DDT. Ortiz tagged in and hit a double team with Kingston, but Castagnoli broke it up with a deadlift. Ortiz and Kingston ran wild, with both men hitting dives.

Back in the ring, Danielson pulled Ortiz into a LeBell Lock. Castagnoli held Kingston back, but Ortiz fought to the ropes. Castagnoli crotched Kingston on the ropes, allowing Danielson to kick Ortiz’s head in. Danielson hit the Busaiku Knee and pinned Ortiz for the win as Kingston was held back. Danielson talked trash to Kingston as he was consoling Ortiz. Danielson spat in Kingston’s face before bailing from the ring.

During this match, the Dynamite card for Wednesday was announced. Hangman Page will take on Penta El Zero M. Swerve Strickland will face Jeff Hardy. Wardlow will face Trent Beretta. The Acclaimed will defend the AEW World Trios Championships against The Mogul Embassy. Timeless Toni Storm and Deonna Purrazzo will go face-to-face. And in a match that made my jaw drop when it was announced, Adam Copeland’s Cope Open will be answered by Minoru Suzuki.
