AEW, CFX reach settlement in Luchasaurus mask lawsuit

  • Ian Carey

A settlement has been reached between AEW and CFX over the mask worn by Luchasaurus.

Composite Effects, LLC (CFX) filed a complaint in December alleging the mask is their design and that AEW and Luchasaurus were using it for merchandising purposes without the designer’s permission.

CFX had granted Luchasaurus permission to wear the mask as a wrestler but allege that neither he nor AEW had the rights to sell merchandise featuring the mask design. The company cited Luchasaurus action figures and t-shirts as examples.

AEW holds the rights to another mask created by CFX in 2021 for Luchasaurus. However, that mask was used only sparingly with Luchasaurus primarily wrestling in the mask CFX originally designed for him in 2016.

Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics posted on Thursday that all parties have reached a settlement.

The Court has been made aware that the parties have reached a settlement. Accordingly, IT IS ORDERED that this action is dismissed without prejudice to the right, upon good cause shown, to reopen the action or to seek summary judgment enforcing the compromise if settlement is not consummated within sixty days of this order. Each party will bear its own costs. The Court retains jurisdiction for all purposes, including enforcing the settlement agreement entered into by the parties. The parties are reminded that, if witnesses have been subpoenaed, every witness must be informed by counsel not to appear.
